There are many different types of mammals this includes the koala,
echidna, brush-tailed possum, ring-tailed possum, greater glider, yellowfooted ant echinus, and little brown bat. In the Warrumbungle there are
also a good size of reptiles that include the Eastern brown snakes, Redbellied black snake and many more. There is over 190 different species of
birds that have been found in the Warrumbungle including Emu, Wedgetailed eagle, Peregrine falcon and the regent honeyeater plus many, many
more.
Vegetation
This Warrumbungles area is covered by White Gums and Narrow-leafed
Ironbark. The main plants in the creek areas include rough-barked apple
and river red gum. The undergrowth includes different sized bushes and
grasses. Most plants include Kangaroo thorn, Coast hickory,
and lots of different grasses.
Maps
The Warrumbungles is found out in the heart of NSW, it is found in
between Coonabarabranand and Pilliga. The Warrumbungles is around
236.2 km squared and is full of creeks and mountains.
The bread knife!
The breadknife was formed by a large volcano over time when volcanic
fluid pushed its way through a crack. Then after time all of the outside
soft rock fell away and left a giant, thin rock that stands around 90meters
high and then named it the Bread Knife.
Aboriginal History
For hundreds of years before Europe settlers came to Australia the
Aboriginal people been to the Warrumbungles and set up camp. There
are three separate groups that board the area the Gamilaroi, the
Wiradjuri and the Weilwan. The Gamilaroi is one of the larger aboriginal
groups and also the name Warrumbungle comes also from the Gamilaroi
language. Evidence of Aboriginal camps are everywhere because there is
camp fires, rock paintings and other things like tools and symbols.
Criteria
The Warrumbungles national park should become a world heritage site
because it reaches criteria 2 which means it has cultural areas and has
many paintings as well. It also has criteria 3 because there has been
civilization and cultural traditions that have happened in the area. In the
Warrumbungles there has been settlements and land use from the
aboriginals and that means it has criteria 5 as well. The Warrumbungles
has got many beauty’s that include the bread knife, landscape and all of
the beautiful animals which means it covers criteria number 7. Then there
is landforms like the bread knife which is a pretty cool because it was
caused by a volcano which means it has criteria number 8 as well. The
Warrumbungles is also full of different types of animals some of which are
protected and there is also a good size of plants and there is also a lot of
fresh water streams and rivers which go through the Warrumbungles
which means then it has the criteria of number 9. The Warrumbungles
also hold habitat to lots of animals and plants. Some of these animals
may be threatened or protected it also holds an observatory which may
be used for scientific uses. The Warrumbungles should be a world
heritage site because it covers 7 of 10 criteria’s that should be met.
