LIGHT PAINTING
By Rian Neal
WHAT LIGHT PAINTING?
Light Painting is photographic technique with
longer shutter speeds to capture the light
painting like this picture for example on right.
There many different type of light painting you
can do for yourself but it can be hard or easy
challenge depends on what you planning to
draw.
Light Painting is just like art and people who
doing light painting are artists.
This light painting can show something amazing
you can do when its night time or in a dark room.
HOW IT STARTED?
Frank Gilbreth : First Light Painting 1914
He was the first to discover the how to do light painting,
he didn’t want to do art but want to see how fast the
people in factory working.
Still 1935
Man Ray : Light Painting Photography 1935
He was the first person to do Light Painting as an artist
and his work, as he called them, ‘Space Writing’.

LED LIGHT PAINTING
LED light painting is a torch light something
you can use to draw in the picture.
LED light can be very useful to draw a
stickman or guitar that really isn’t there at all.
And also it can be cool to use for your own
toys like for example the well known manga
called ‘Dragon Balls’, you can see the light
coming out from his hand like its real.
LED light drawing can be a little tricky to do to
capture perfect shot.
GLOW STICK LIGHT PAINTING
What Glow Stick can do?
Glow Sticks can make things look more
challenging and you can achieve amazing
shots.
Glow Sticks can make an image look like
there are flames or smoke all around your
body like these photos for example.
The top right photo is flame all over the body
but it can take a long time to do with glow
sticks because glow sticks have weak light for
DSLR camera to see.
Very hard thing to achieve with Glow Stick!
HOW IT WORKS?
1.
Start with Camera make sure you change setting into
manual.
2.
Most important thing to change the ISO number to
100, and Aperture to 5.6 and the timer to 30 seconds.
3.
Press to start the shoot then start painting your torch
light but important thing is to make sure your torch
light is facing the camera.
4.
Work out the time you have left, if the 30 seconds had
ended or you could end up being in the picture, which
would spoil everything.
5.
Have a look at the result of photo you have achieve.

MY OWN LIGHT PAINTING
When I learned about Light Painting I
started doing tests and experimenting for
myself and I ask mates to help me with
the project.
It was successful with Light Painting on
my first try.
The top image shows I used an LED light
torch.
This shot shows I used a Pink Glow stick
I also experimented with an Orange Glow
