We place ourselves before God, That we may be touched and cleansed by the power of God’s Spirit. In Sprit and in Truth: A Worship Book compiled for the World Council of Churches Seventh Assembly 1991 1 Gathering Song Morning has Broken 2 Thanksgiving for the Gift of Life O Sun behind all suns we give you greeting this day. Let all creation praise you: let the daylight and the shadows praise you. Let the fertile earth and the swelling sea praise you. Let the winds and the rain, the thunder and lightning, praise you. Let all that breathes, praise you. And we shall praise you, O God of all life, We give you greeting this day. Passing of the Peace Scripture Reading Isaiah 42: 10-16 10 Sing to the LORD a new song, his praise from the end of the earth! Let the sea roar and all that fills it, the coastlands and their inhabitants. 11 Let the desert and its towns lift up their voice, the villages that Kedar inhabits;let the inhabitants of Sela sing for joy, let them shout from the tops of the mountains. 12 Let them give glory to the LORD, and declare his praise in the coastlands. 13 The LORD goes forth like a soldier, like a warrior he stirs up his fury; he cries out, he shouts aloud, he shows himself mighty against his foes. 14 For a long time I have held my peace, I have kept still and restrained myself; now I will cry out like a woman in labour, I will gasp and pant. 15 I will lay waste mountains and hills, and dry up all their herbage;I will turn the rivers into islands, and dry up the pools. 16 I will lead the blind by a road they do not know, by paths they have not known I will guide them. I will turn the darkness before them into light, the rough places into level ground. These are the things I will do, and I will not forsake them. Message: “A Dangerous New Song” 3 Song I Am the Light of the World 4 Prayers God be with you And also with you Let us pray; Oh God, You are the giver of life. We pray for the Church in the whole world. Sanctify her life, renew her worship, give power to her witness and a dangerous new song to sing. Give strength to those who are searching. Close the divisions that separate us from one another. Heal our hurting hearts and dance with us in our joy. Oh God, 5 Who knows all things, listen now to your children praying. Silent prayer Lord in your mercy, hear our prayers, and hear us now as we pray the prayer that Jesus taught us; Our Father, who are in heaven, hallowed be they name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and for give us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen Offering Doxology: #778 Praise God from whom all blessings flow. Every quarter a different organization receives these funds to do God’s work in the world. This quarter our giving helps support our long-time mission partner The United Campus Ministry at the University of Maryland, College Park. The United Campus Ministry (UCM) provides quality spiritual support and programs for young adults during critical years. the on-campus Christian chaplaincy, headed by Rev. Holly Ulmer, offers a safe environment where students from diverse backgrounds can come together to honestly question, grow and live out their faith. UCM extends a warm welcome to young people, and travels with them through all the twists, turns and detours of their spiritual journeys. Through the years, GCC has provided not only financial support, but our members have served on the Board of Directors as well. Your generous giving helps us to continue to be an important part of this vital ministry. 8
