The AWT may be used for any violation of any ordinance of the Knoxville City Code, at the
discretion of the police officer, except that the AWT shall not be used where an ordinance
requires or permits a person to cure or abate the conditions that constitute an ordinance
violation (e.g., Nuisance violations, which under Chapter 15 of the City Code typically require
service of a notice to abate the nuisance); or where corrective, non-monetary action is

SEC. 30-8-2-A: Frequency of Billing
Meters for large commercial users shall be read monthly. Other commercial and
residential users may be read quarterly or monthly. If these meters are read
quarterly, estimated bills will be issued monthly for those months between
readings and third bill will reflect the difference between the combined two
estimates and the actual quarterly reading.

SEC. 30-8-2-B: Penalty for Late Payment
Bills may be paid by mail or in person at City Hall, in person at First Mid Illinois
Bank, or by depositing payment in the drop box provided at the curb on the north
side of the Public Square. If bills are not paid by the final due date which shall be
20 days after the billing date, a late fee of 10% shall be added to the bill.

SEC. 30-8-2-C: Non-Sufficient Fund Fee
A non-sufficient fund fee shall be $25.00.
SEC 30-8-3- Vacating Premises (Effective 3-2-09)
$5.00 When an account is being closed out and there is an amount due greater
than the security deposit, there shall be a minimum amount for which the bill shall
be sent.
SEC. 30-8-4-A: Turn-on Fee
$15.00 per turn-on after voluntary shut-off request (Effective 5-15-2000).

“Fines for violating any provision of Chapter 31 of the Knoxville, Illinois Municipal
Code shall be those range of fines set forth in Sec. 1-1-11 of the Knoxville, Illinois
Municipal Code, and each day of any violation continues shall constitutes a separate
offense subject to said range of fines.”
