Hotchkiss K8 School 2016 - 2017 May 10, 2017 - Wednesday Newsletter Dear parents/guardians, WOW…there are so many things happening at Hotchkiss K-8 and the next two weeks will be packed full of concerts, field trips, assemblies, etc. We hope you will be able to join us for these activities. Please feel free to call the school if you have any questions. Also, see the calendar below for a complete list of all the activities coming up. Continue to read our Wednesday Newsletter, check out our website and like us on Facebook for updated information. The K-5 Spring Concert will be on Tuesday, May 16th at 6 pm. All K-5 students are expected to attend. A note to parents explaining the concert is attached and went home in the express last week. This needs to be signed and returned to Ms. Merrily ASAP. Also, attached you will find a sign-up for volunteers that are needed during the day on Tuesday to help Ms. Merrily with rehearsals. If you are available to help out during a specific time please sign up and return the form with your child or you can email Ms. Merrily at: [email protected]. We will have one more perfect attendance celebration on Wednesday, May 24th for May. Students that have received a certificate throughout the year have put their names in for a drawing. We will have two winners, one student from K-5th and one student from 6th-8th. Two lucky students will win a new Kindle Fire on Wednesday, May 24th, must be at school to win!! We will be having a barbecue lunch on Thursday, May 25th for the K-5 students and any parents that would like to have lunch with their child that day are welcome to. The cost of an adult lunch is $3.75 and a child’s lunch is $2.65. This is no free lunch for K-5 students. On the last day of school, students will receive a sack lunch prior to being released at 12:30 p.m. 2016-2017 yearbooks are here and they are amazing!! Hurry and get one today, the cost is $23.00. Yearbooks are for all 6th-8th grade students; if you would like to purchase one please stop by the office. Yearbooks will be given out during lunch on Tuesday, May 24th. There will be 30 minutes at the end of lunch on Tuesday for students with a yearbook to get their yearbook signed. You will also be able to take them on your year-end trip and get them signed!!! Please come to our final Pit Crew Meeting on Wednesday, May 17 th at 5:30 p.m. We will be discussing some behavioral issues that we are seeing at HK8 and how we will be addressing them through next year’s schedule and program changes. Parents if your child is missing anything, please check out our “Lost and Found” before summer break. May School Happenings: Friday, May 12th: 1:00 p.m. -7th/8th Track Meet at Cedaredge Middle School, bus at 11:45 a.m. 2nd grade to the National Fish Hatchery, from 9:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Mon. May 15th: Championship Iron Chef’s Cook Off from 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Tues., May 16th: K-5 Spring Concert 6:00-7:00 p.m. (please see attached flyer) Wed., May 17th: Pit Crew Meeting at 5:30 p.m. Thurs. May 18th: 6th-8th Grade Band Concert at Hotchkiss High School p.m. Mon. May 22nd: STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) presentations in the gym for parents from 5:30-7:00 p.m., 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. during the day. Tues. May 23rd: 5th Grade HERO (Biography Presentations) Fair from 5:30 p.m-7:00 p.m. in their classrooms. Wed., May 24th: 8th Grade Continuation Ceremony at Hotchkiss K-8 School at 5:00 p.m. in the Don Tate Gym, followed by a Taco Dinner at Zack’s Pavilion, hosted by the 8th grade parents for the students and staff. Thurs., May 25th: K-2nd Grades to the North Fork Pool from 12:30-3:00 p.m. 6th Grade - will be at Crawford State Park all day; lunch will be at the park. 7th Grade - will have an activity day here at Hotchkiss K-8, students will have a list of activities they want to participate in during the day and an outdoor BBQ lunch. 8th Grade - to Banana’s Fun Park in Grand Junction all day. They can bring their own lunch, or have one provided to them from the lunchroom. They will return in time to catch the buses. Friday, May 26th: Last day of School, students will be released at 12:30 p.m. Yearbook signing at 8:15 a.m. 6th-8th Grade Year-end Awards at 9:00 a.m. 6th-8th graders - will eat lunch and then be released for the summer TBA. K-2 students - will be in with their teacher for end of year classroom activities. Students will eat lunch at 10:50 and then be released for the summer, TBA. 3rd-5th graders- will go to the North Fork Pool from 9:00-11:00 a.m., when they return they will eat lunch and be released for the summer. Buses will load out 12:30 p.m. Community Happenings: Please continue to check out our bulletin board to the right of the HK8 office, it will have all information that is available to students from within the Hotchkiss community during different times of the year.
