On-Site Training Menu
This menu provides a list of topics that the Intervention Services Division
of the Thompson Center for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders can
present to your organization. Additional topics will be evaluated per
request. Full day workshops provide 6 hours of training, while half-day
workshops will provide 3 hours.
If requesting a specific date for training, please provide at least 60 days
notice. If notice is not provided, training can be scheduled according to
Thompson Center staff availability.

Full-Day Workshops
 = Additional Trainers will be required for groups larger than 15
Introduction to Discrete Trial Teaching 
This workshop will cover the basics of Discrete Trial Teaching including errorless learning,
prompting procedures, and data collection systems.
Pre-requisite Knowledge & Skills:

Basic understanding of reinforcement (e.g., content of “Reinforcement & Punishment 101”)
Assessing Inappropriate Behavior & Promoting Appropriate Behavior 
This workshop will provide hands-on practice in conducting functional behavior assessments of
inappropriate behavior to determine the function and existing consequences. Additionally,
participants will learn to create individualized behavior plans to address inappropriate behavior and
teach appropriate replacement behavior
Pre-requisite Knowledge & Skills:

Basic knowledge of ABA principles, including: stimulus control, prompting, shaping, chaining,
reinforcement, and punishment (e.g., content of “Implementing Applied Behavior Analysis
Procedures” workshop).
Social Skills Assessment & Intervention
This workshop will cover a variety of informal social skills assessments and intervention strategies
and can be adapted for all ages.
Pre-requisite Knowledge & Skills:

Basic understanding of reinforcement (e.g., content of “Reinforcement & Punishment 101”)
Implementing Applied Behavior Analysis Procedures 
This workshop will cover several advanced ABA procedures, including: schedules of reinforcement,
stimulus control (prompting, transfer of stimulus control), shaping, chaining, and differential
reinforcement.

Behavioral Skills Training 
This workshop will prepare participants to utilize Behavioral Skills Training to teach a variety of
skills (including, but not limited to: language skills, self-help skills, social skills). Participants will
practice each component of Behavioral Skills Training. This intervention is a “one size fits most”
approach for skill acquisition, and can be utilized with a wide range of clients who have some b asic
skills with respect to following instructions and imitation.

Half-Day Workshops
 = Topic for which a second trainer may be needed for groups larger than 15
Introduction to Autism
This workshop will cover an overview of the autism spectrum and associated characteristics and
symptoms. It will discuss implications for school and introduce basic intervention strategies.
What is Applied Behavior Analysis?
This workshop will introduce participants to the science of Applied Behavior Analysis, including what
it is, what it is not, and what it can be used for. Additionally, information will be provided regard ing
recent legislative changes in Missouri regarding the practice of Applied Behavior Analysis.
Reinforcement & Punishment 101
This workshop provides participants with introduction to reinforcement and punishment, including
the distinction between positive and negative reinforcement and punishment, the effects
reinforcement and punishment have on behavior, and how to conduct reinforcement and preference
assessments.
Teaching Adaptive Skills
This workshop will cover basic strategies for teaching a variety of adaptive skills, including dressing,
toileting, eating, and completing chores or other self-help activities.
Pre-requisite Knowledge & Skills:

Basic understanding of reinforcement (e.g., content of “Reinforcement & Punishment 101”)
Data Collection Systems 
In this workshop, participants will learn about various dimensions of behavior for which data can be
collected, and ways to collect data, including frequency, rate, duration, and percentage of
occurrence. Participants will also be given an introd uction to graphing and visually inspecting data.
(Instructions on graphing using Microsoft Excel will only be provided if participants have laptops to
use during the training)

Play Skills Interventions
This workshop leads participants through the typical stages of play skill development and covers a
variety of strategies that can be implemented to promote play skills in th e school and home
environment.
Pre-requisite Knowledge & Skills:

Basic understanding of reinforcement (e.g., content of “Reinforcement & Punishment 101”)
Pre-linguistic Skills & Naturalistic Language Strategies
This workshop teaches participants about early communication skills such as joint attention, eye
contact, and social gestures. Participants will learn how to identify and assess these skills, the
importance of them, and how to teach them to young students with autism. Additionally, this workshop
will cover Natural Language Strategies (e.g., Incidental Teaching). Participants will practice
implementing these strategies and be introduced to target behaviors and data collection systems.
Pre-requisite Knowledge & Skills:

Basic understanding of reinforcement (e.g., content of “Reinforcement & Punishment 101”)
Environmental & Visual Supports
Participants in this workshop will learn a variety of environmental arrangements and visual supports
that could be implemented to assist in teaching some individu als with ASD. These include classroom
arrangement, visual schedules, and other forms of visual aid.
Determining LRE (Least Restrictive Environment) for young children with ASD
This workshop will focus on determining appropriate environmental and person nel supports for young
children with autism spectrum disorders within school settings. Participants will be introduced to the
VB-MAPP assessment tool and skill levels; will gain insight into when it is appropriate to target skills in
1-on-1 settings, in small group settings, or in large group settings; and will learn how to utilize and fade
paraprofessional support throughout the process. This session is most appropriate for individuals
working with children younger than age 10.
