BASIC LIFE SUPPORT FOR HEALTH CARE PROVIDER COURSE
The Washington Hospital has been designated by the American Heart Association as a Community Training
Center. The American Heart Association strongly promotes knowledge of and proficiency in BLS and has
developed instructional materials for this purpose. Although this course is not sponsored by an AHA component,
some or all materials utilized by faculty or students may be American Heart Association materials supplied on a cost
basis. Any fees charged for this course do not represent income to the association. All instructors have completed
an American Heart Association Instructor Course.
Description
The purpose of this program is to educate the participants in the principles and techniques of Basic Life Support
(BLS) for Healthcare Provider.
Length of class varies greatly—depends on the number of particpants and is completed when manikin proficiency
acquired and written test completed. Completion courses are for persons who are taking the course for the first
time. Course renewal is required every 2 years.
Objectives
Following the Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) course, the participant will be able to:

perform skills needed for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for adult, child, and infant.

perform skills needed for CPR with an automated external defibrillator (AED) for an adult, child or infant.

perform skills needed to treat a choking victim: adult, child, and infant.
Pre-Registration required at least 14 days prior to the class:
The fee for the course is $40 per person. Parking is $3.00 per car; tokens can be purchased from a vending
machine near the course location.
Make the applicable registration fee payable to The Washington Hospital.

*The course requires a minimum number of registrations.

Cancellation
Less than 7 days, no refund; less than 14 days, 50% refund; more than 14 days, 10% processing fee deducted. For
class cancellation and delay information because of inclement weather, you will be notified by e-mail and/or phone.
