with a net in the same building as the match.

• The 1st referee walks in front of Team ‘A’, the 2nd referee
walks in front of Team ‘B’.
• See Diagram ‘B’
• 1st referee immediately blows whistle at end of proclamation
• After handshake referees and line judges go to scorers’ table
• 2nd referee must ensure that coach of each team submits 1
original and 2 copies of line-up sheet for 1st set. On line-up
sheet, s/he must check if Libero is marked or not
• The 2nd referee gives copies of line-up sheet immediately to
Game Jury President and the original to the scorer.
• The Game Jury President is only one entitled to transmit lineup sheets to the host TV broadcaster and to the VIS runner.
• 1st referee whistles to announce start of official warm–up at net
of both teams (6 minutes)
• During official warm-up, referees check game balls,
substitution paddles and all necessary equipment for the game
(scoresheet, buzzer, uniforms, etc.). They must also inspect the
reserve equipment.
• Referees give any necessary instruction to scorers, line judges,
and ball retrievers, floor moppers.
• 1st referee whistles to announce end of official warm-up and
both referees ask Game Jury President for permission to start
match.
Team’s Action
• Teams warm-up with balls in the warm-up hall(s).
• Teams cannot enter playing area before start of official protocol.
• Both teams are requested to line up at the corner outside the
playing area, with their head coaches
• After coin toss, team captains and coaches sign scoresheet
brought to them by scorer; and the team captains join other
players in line
• Team officials go to their respective benches and bring in any
equipment which they place behind team bench.
• 2-2 line judges follow referees and stand laterally in middle of
court, perpendicularly and close to net, facing main TV camera
located at the side of Control Committee’s table
• Teams wear the official playing uniforms
• Players shake hands immediately after 1st referee blows whistle
• After handshake teams go to their benches
• The teams start to warm-up at the net (6 minutes)
• Teams wear the official playing uniform for the warm-up
• Players return to benches at end of warm-up
• Team officials, 6 starting players and Libero player sit on bench
while other players stay in warm-up area.
• Both referees accompany fanfare to middle of court; close to
net; turn and face scorers’ table; are introduced by announcer
• After being introduced, the referees shake hands, 1st referee
goes to the referee’s stand and 2nd referee goes to the front of
scorers’ table
• At announcement of their name, each starting player and team

• Presentation of the head coach of Team ‘A’
• Presentation of the receiving team (‘B’) likewise
• Reserve players will be presented as they enter match as
substitutes.
The 2nd referee:
• distributes two match balls to the ball retrievers #2 and #5
• checks players’ standing position, comparing them to those
registered on their respective line-up sheet
• S/he asks scorer if s/he has also finished checking and is
ready to start.
• Then s/he gives a match ball to server
• raises his/her two hands, facing the 1st referee, to signal that
everything is ready to start the match.

• Start of match 1st referee blows whistle authorizing 1st service.
NOTE: All matches will begin according to the schedule published. However, if the preceding match takes longer than scheduled, the official protocol will begin only after the court has been cleared and
the administration of the previous match has been completed. The referees will communicate the starting time to both team coaches, after consulting the game Jury President and the Referee Delegate.
