CONCEPT Omar Hason // M.Arch // University of Oregon // Professor Virginia Cartwright // 2014 Hotel conference rooms require a large amount of flexibility in terms of space and light. Hotel conference rooms are multipurpose spaces that require multi-purpose lighting. A high end hotel chain should foster good design. A building’s tie to it’s local architectural vernacular and geographic context creates a unique experience for every hotel in the franchise. There is great value in the recognition of place. CHANDELIER COMPONENTS Light Diffusing Plywood Fins This small scale study model explores the undulating form, earth to sky juxtaposition of the chandelier and illustrates the desired ambient light quality. APPLICATION In the adjacent renderings, the LIGHTSCAPE Chandelier is represented in it’s three base settings (A+B+C). A B A. AMBIENT LIGHT Using just the OLED panels, the space is filled with diffused light that washes down the plywood fins. Patterns are cast on adjacent walls without being distracting. B. PLAY OF BRILLIANCE For lower light demands, the LEDs in the tape that runs along the profile of each fin can be individually operated to create a gentle sparkle. C C. THE FULL EFFECT Combining the OLED panels with the LED tape accentuates the geographical form while sufficiently lighting the space. In this setting, the chandelier helps to activate the space for more lively ballroom room functions.
