Be careful when selecting Christmas lights
(Prague, October 27, 2015) Within continuous monitoring of the inner market, the Czech Trade
Inspection Authority detected a product which poses serious risk of injury by electric current due to
construction defects of its electric unit’s cord plug and cover. Christmas chain with 100 bulbs and light
effects is also equipped with deceitful information about the way of the product’s use. The Czech
version states that the product is suitable for both outdoor and indoor use, but a visible text INDOOR
is displayed on the upper part of the packaging. Information about individual regimes of light is
provided only in English.

Light chain with 100 bulbs is charged by a power cord with a flat plug and is equipped with electronics
for light effects. With regard to technical implementation the product is suitable only for indoor use. The
light is put into a paper box of the following proportions about: 12 x 7 x 5 cm.
Manufacturer is unknown and among others the following texts are on the product’s packaging:
CLUSTER LIGHTS, INDOOR, 100, pictograms and double safety and environmental information for use,
importer: Ocean Logistic, s. r. o., inscriptions ITEM NO: 88EU8901244C, Made in P. R. C., bar code
8595589012442 and the CE marking of the required shape and size. The sign 2.5A/250V and the CE
marking in incorrect shape and size were displayed on the two-pole cord plug. Information about
individual regimes of lighting in English are displayed on the electronic unit.
Danger
Proportions of the two-pole power cord don’t comply with the required model. When plugging it in, a
consumer can be easily injured by electric current. Electric unit’s cover is not sufficiently fixed to the
power cord and user can be injured by electric current after the power cord is extracted. The product is

not equipped with all required and necessary safety information and accompanying information contain
mistakes that could lead to a danger way of product use and subsequent injury from electric current.
Protective measure
The Czech Trade Inspection Authority prohibited distribution of the light chain CLUSTER LIGHTS 100 and
ordered immediate withdrawal from distribution.
