ABN 70 523 008 003 FECC Players, Members, Sponsors & Supporters Update – August 21 2013 Dear Sponsors, Past Players, Current Players and Supporters, This week’s update is focusing on the on-field development of pre-season to date – Recruitments, Bulldog Academy, Development Squads and Training. We are particularly pleased Steve Chapman has commenced! Recruits – Haberfield Signs The club is thrilled to add former South Australian Pace Bowler Jake Haberfield to our attack this year. Jake has played 16 first-class matches, 31 List A matches and 3 T20 Matches. Juniors - Bulldog Academy Takes Off This winter has seen the club increase its involvement in junior cricket, with the launch of the “Bulldog Academy”. This program intends to convene all clubs/associations, coaches and players at every level of Representative Cricket in the Western Suburbs and streamline the processes around getting players into Representative Cricket – meaning a better quality experience for all involved and an exposure of the club to the broader community. Key features of the Initiative are: Assignment of a person within the Club’s Organisation to coordinate all activities related to identification and recruitment of talented young players (through Western Spirit, local competitions, current FECC youth, etc). This role has been filled by local cricket personality George Shaw. Delivery of additional coaching programs to the identified players through winter-time –Eight Sessions for players identified who may or may not have been part of the Footscray-Edgewater CC playing list as of the previous season but have been identified as potential future players for the club, as well as likely players for the coming season’s “Western Spirit” campaign. Seniors – Pre-Season & Development Squads The senior playing group have also been hitting the training track hard for the past five weeks, with sessions being across the Western Suburbs at Maribyrnong College, Westside Indoor Sports and the MCG. This week, we start training at our Merv Hughes Oval home for some sessions. One initiative to acknowledge here has been the introduction of “Development Squad Sessions”; aimed at getting additional work into our existing younger 2nd/3rd/4th XI players and also the cream of the crop from last year’s Western Spirit campaign – as identified and recruited by our “Talent Manager” (explained above), George Shaw. This saw around 25 of our existing players involved, and 23 identified talents from outside the club invited. From the sessions, 13 of the 23 identified boys have been invited into the full pre-season while the other 10 boys will be invited on an occasional basis with an eye to the future. Overall, the program has been a success. FOOTSCRAY CRICKET CLUB Inc. Trading as FOOTSCRAY EDGEWATER CRICKET CLUB PO BOX 4126 WEST FOOTSCRAY VIC 3012.
