European Iron Academy KA 2 Strategic partnership for vocational education and training EU Erasmus+ 2015-‐2017 Presentation at Stia meeting, April 2017 • In an increasingly standardized world of products, the desire grows for individually designed and handcrafted single pieces. • This means both in the interior design as well as in building constructions, gardens, landscape and public spaces. Forging-‐ and metal designers must be able to recognize the trends early, to respond properly and professionally, and suitably present their products and skills. The basic professional training doesn’t offer that. • And that is why several European blacksmiths have created the idea of a new follow up VET training education: the European Iron Academy. The vision Two stages of the project of the European Iron Academy should prepare a base of international vocational education for those interested in the highest level of metal working. Students should be provided by a varied offer of specialized training programs. By 2021, a personal structure of top lecturers, fixed curriculum and educational methods verified during implementation of the 2016-‐2020 project should have been formed. The start • A working group for filling in the EU application was formed during a meeting of the competent council of blacksmiths of the Ring of the European Cities of Iron Works in Bienno, Italy at May 26th 2012. • The EU application was third time lucky. Our application has been approved in October 2015. The kick off meeting has been organized in February 2016. • Seven partners out of six European countries: the Netherlands, Finland, Germany (2x), Italy, Czech Republic and Austria.
