News Release Monday September 19, 2016 For immediate release A Show to Remember, A Cause to Support Whitehorse (Yukon) – Yukon Cares is pleased to host a great performer, Bob Bossin playing Davy The Punk, on Thursday, September 22 at 8 PM at the Old Firehall in Whitehorse. A highly acclaimed personal memoir in musical form, Bob Bossin from Canada’s original Indie group, Stringband, tells the story of his outlaw father. Songs and Stories of Davy the Punk is a one-man musical about cops and gamblers, grifters and grafters, fathers and sons. Indie music pioneer Bob Bossin’s hunt for his outlaw father is intriguing, comic and poignant. “Yukon Cares is very proud to present the show, Davy the Punk,” said Yukon Cares founder and President, Raquel De Quieroz. “It is an opportunity for us to connect with the community in a different way. Music and laughter is part of every culture and brings people together.” “Fascinating… amazing and sometimes hilarious,” says CBC’s Michael Enright. “So outrageous, it’s worthy of a Mordecai Richler novel,” says Andreas Schroeder. “Bossin is funny, informative and inspiring at the same time,” said Pete Seeger. Bossin performs songs and stories of Davy the Punk, his bookie father who ran an illegal offtrack betting operation in the immigrant community of Toronto from the 1920s to 1940s. Davy was a major figure in illegal off-track betting on horse racing in Ontario. Bob Bossin grew up, unaware that Davy, his father, had an underworld past. The father Bob Bossin knew growing up in Toronto in the 1950s was a quiet, conservative booking agent for mainstream nightclubs. The father he later discovered was Davy the Punk, a pivotal figure in Canada’s gambling business of the 1920s and 40s. Davy Bossin’s battles with the law created precedents that affect us to this day. Tickets for the one night show are available at Dean’s String and Music Supplies or you can contact Gregory Bryce at 667-2161. Davy the Punk is also playing in Dawson City on September 28 at the KIAC Hall. Yukon Cares continues to raise funds to welcome more refugees in the Yukon. This event’s proceeds will go towards hosting other refugee families.
