HOW TO APPLY A TM TO AN XLF OR SDLXLIFF FILE STEPS INVOLVED: (A) Import a TMX or SDLTM into SDL TRADOS STUDIO (B) CREATE a SDL TRADOS STUDIO PROJECT (C) APPLY TM A) Import a TMX or SDLTM into SDL TRADOS STUDIO In order to use SDL TRADOS and SDLXLIFF or XLF files, you will need a compatible TM format. You can import SDLTMs or TMX into TRADOS STUDIO but you can’t import MDB files. If you have MDB files, please read the guide entitled “HOW TO EXPORT A MDB TO TMX” 1.- Open SDL TRADOS STUDIO 2011 2.- From the left section, click on TRANSLATION MEMORIES 3.- Click on FILE > NEW > TRANSLATION MEMORY a) From the pop-up, provide a name for TM, pick the language pairs and locate the place where you want to save it. b) Click on NEXT c) On the next section (FIELDS AND SETTINGS) just leave the defaults and click on NEXT: d) On the LANGUAGE AND RESOURCES section you can configure special settings for the segmentation rules, if nothing has to be changed, please click on FINISH: e) Then click on CLOSE: f) Right click the TM created in step A-e) and click over IMPORT g) From the pop-up window, click over ADD FILES and locate the TM you want to create the TM from and then click over NEXT: h) Leave defaults and click over NEXT: i) Leave defaults and click over FINISH: j) If everything went well, no errors should be found. Click on CLOSE: B) CREATE a SDL TRADOS STUDIO PROJECT Once the TM has been imported, now we can work with the XLF or SDLXLIFF. The simplest way is to open the translatable file into TRADOS and then apply the TM. a) OPEN SDL TRADOS STUDIO b) Click over FILE > OPEN > DOCUMENT c) Look for the SDLXLIFF or XLF to translate and click on OPEN. d) Once the file is open, click on FILE > SAVE AS. Save the file in your computer and provide a name to the project. Click on SAVE: e) Click on PROJECT, and then on PROJECT SETTINGS: f) Under the TRANSLATION AND MEMORY AND AUTOMATED TRANSLATION section, let’s add the TMX we imported before. Click on ADD and then click on FILE-BASED TRANSLATION MEMORY: g) Search for the TMX created and click on OPEN: h) Click over QUICK UPGRADE and if everything went well, click on CLOSE: i) When requested to delete temporary files, click on YES: j) Once it has been imported, make sure to view the checkboxes next to the TM, for instance if you want your TM get's updated with any content you enter in the XLIFF leave the UPDATE checkbox ticked. Click on OK. TM ADDED TO THE PROJECT. C) APPLY TM Now that we have the XLIFF and the TM in our project, let’s apply the TM so we can get matches. With the project open: a) Click over FILE > BATCH TASKS > PRE-TRANSLATE FILES b) From the pop-up, click over NEXT: c) In the next screen you can specify what type of matches you want, recommended is 100%, click on FINISH: d) Once completed, click on CLOSE: e) You will be asked to reopen the file, click on YES and check on the matches: PREVIEW OF MATCHES APPLIED:
