Recruitment Process To help you complete an effective application, we have provided the following information about the recruitment process you are about to embark upon. UKVI and CSR (Civil Service Resourcing) will be managing your application and an independent third party will be assessing your competency statements. Please note that should you not complete your online application or face-to-face interview during the timeframes outlined during the application process, your application will not be progressed. Please also note that due to the volume of applications that may be received, the timelines are subject to change. There are 3 stages to your application: 1. Your online application – which must be submitted online by 23:59 26 July 2015. The application will be sifted on the lead competency and only those passing will have the second competency scored. 2. Your online test – which must be completed by 23:59 29 July 2015 3. Your performance at a face to face interview – currently scheduled to take place between 24 August 2015 and 4 September 2015 in Liverpool. 6 A summary of each of these processes and what we will be evaluating at each stage follows. Stage 1. Online Application You will be required to complete an online application form asking questions about you, your education or work experience and your competencies. It is important that you answer all questions fully and to the best of your ability. The application form includes requests for competency statements, which help us to assess your ability to undertake the role. The specific competencies for this role are outlined in the previous section above under the heading “Competencies”. You will be asked to provide up to 250 word examples in your application form that demonstrate the indicators of each competency, and submit this by 26 July 2015. You will then progress to take the online test. Applicants who pass the test and who best demonstrate and evidence the indicators for the competencies will progress to the interview stage. Please note, failure to complete all steps and timings set out in the application process will result in your application being withdrawn. Assessing Your Online Application Form If you pass the Online Test, your application form will be evaluated to ensure that it includes details of how you meet the stated competencies. The response to the first competency statement “Making Effective Decisions” will be evaluated. If your response to this section is successful, your response to the second competency statement “Delivering at Pace” will be evaluated. If you are shortlisted to attend a face-to-face interview, you will be asked to provide verbal examples of how you demonstrate all 4 competencies. Stage 2. Online Test As well as your online application form, you will also need to complete an online situational judgement test. Stage 3. Interview Interviews will take place in Liverpool at a location to be agreed. The interview will take place within 5 miles of The Capital Building, Old Hall Street, Liverpool. Interview dates are planned to 7 take place between 24 August 2015 and 4 September 2015. No other interview dates will be offered. During the interview you will be asked questions which will give you the opportunity to evidence your ability to deliver the competencies being sought in this role. Please bear in mind the following when preparing for your interview Expect that at your face-to-face interview you will have around five to seven minutes per competency to provide your examples and evidence. Remember to choose real life examples which best demonstrate the indicators and your experience of this competency. When deciding which examples to use, keep referring back to the requirements of the post that are described in this candidate pack. Another approach that may help you is the STAR approach, detailed below, which helps provide a structure and focus to your responses. Some suggestions when preparing your examples: Keep the Situation and Task elements brief. Concentrate on the Action and the Result. Make sure you include how you overcame any problems or obstacles. Keep looking back at the competency indicators and cover the key points. Describe your thoughts, actions and feelings rather than just describing what happened. Don’t forget to include results and show why your actions were effective and / or how you could have improved on what you did. Use ‘I’ not ‘we.’ This is about your role in the task and how you affected the outcome. Use short statements that show the value you added and use your own words. Choose your most powerful examples – situations that have lots of substance. Don’t get caught up in telling a story in your example. Just give enough to show: 8 how you went about the task? why you did it the way you did? any obstacles you encountered? Your performance within the face-to-face interview will be scored and ranked. Top scoring applicants from the face-to-face interview and lead competency sift will receive confirmation via email of their employment offer, subject to completion of the appropriate pre-employment checks. We will provide a guide on how to complete the pre-employment checks within your confirmation of offer letter. We may also offer successful applicants a place on the Reserve List. This means that we may contact you at any time in the following 12 months and offer you a post if and when they come available. Due to the likelihood that these posts will attract a high volume of applications, no feedback will be given. You will only be provided with a score explanation of the marking against each relevant competency. Please note: You must ensure before making your application that you have the required identification documents. Failure to produce the required identification documents at interview will result in your application being withdrawn. You must ensure before making your application that you have the required educational certificates. Failure to produce the documents at interview will result in your application being withdrawn.
