Job Purpose and Principal Activities
Reports to: Operations Director
To deliver radiocommunications computer solutions and consulting to achieve satisfactory project
completion and invoice such that ATDI’s strategy and corporate objectives are met. To win or assist
in the winning of radiocommunications computer solutions and consulting contracts.

Scope and Dimensions
The jobholder will be responsible for delivering around £200k of business per annum, rising as the
jobholder establishes competence. The jobholder will work with all ATDI customer segments in the
UK, Ireland and Scandinavia and with new and existing customers. Whilst the jobholder will have no
direct reports, they will be responsible for coordinating operations resources to support them
achieve their goals.
4.
Accountabilities and Responsibilities
1. Undertake software and consultancy projects on behalf of ATDI clients where the job holder is
the best person for the job, preparing such documentation and deliverables as required by the
project in order to achieve a satisfied client and ATDI invoice.
2. Act as sales manager, actively seeking new business, responding to customer enquiries, giving
demonstrations, preparing tenders, providing quotations and securing orders for product and
services across the company target markets.
3. Project manage company resources and those of sub-contractors to achieve the aims of any
assigned project from specification to invoice and on into support according to company procedures
and within budget.
4. Undertake and respond speedily to technical support requests ad hoc where these technical
support calls or emails are forwarded to the job holder for action.
5. Plan and execute installation and commissioning of company products on customer premises
confirming agreed operation and function. Plan, manage and execute product and general training
both in Gatwick and on customer sites to developed training plans.

6. Take product management responsibility for one or more products within the company product
and service portfolio, researching the market and managing its/their marketing mix to achieve a
successful and proactively managed product.
7. Participate with others in the general business management of the company, attending meetings
and picking up additional tasks and projects as may from time to time be necessary.

Competencies and Behaviours

Understand the architecture of planning and modelling hardware and software required by
regulators, network operators, systems integrators and others.

Understand how consulting projects can be constructed to solve customer problems.

Able to develop robust project plans, track projects and take the necessary action to keep
project deliveries to committed schedules.

Able to make verbal and written argument in favour of particular engineering solutions.

Able to build long-lasting relationships with customers and to bring these relationships to a
practical close with secured contracts.

Able to develop methods and approaches to consulting work to ensure that work done
proves assertions and amplifies beliefs.

Knowledgeable about the detailed air-interface and signal performance of several
telecommunications technologies such as mobile cellular, private mobile radio and fixed link
systems.

Knowledgeable about radio signals, the way they propagate and interact, both over the air
and when conducted.

Knowledgeable about communications and information theory including channels, noise and
coding and aware of relevant laws such as the Shannon-Hartley theorem.

Understand how computer tools can be used to model communications systems.

Be able to set up various computer modelling and planning tools to achieve meaningful
modelling and planning results. Tools include ICS Telecom and MS Excel.

Able to write easily read and understood tender responses and marketing collateral
containing coherent evidence-based argument and development of sound conclusions.

Able to work both alone and as a contributing member of an ATDI, sub-contract or customer
team.

Able to build effective relationships and work productively day to day with both engineering
and support colleagues.

Knowledgeable about the radiocommunications needs of customers in several ATDI market
segments.

Able to analyse the gap between what ATDI tools offer and customers need in various
segments and specify additional function and solutions.

Knowledgeable about modern computer technology and methods of hosting planning and
modelling applications.

Able to plan and control effort applied to a project in order to keep to promises made about
delivery.

Able to analyse and critically review the work of colleagues and sub-contractors in pursuit of
quality and compliance.

Able to negotiate with customers, suppliers and sub-contractors in order to have them meet
agreed commitments and generally to benefit ATDI.

Exhibit tenacity and determination in bringing in sales and in prosecuting projects.

Confident in own capabilities and knowledge and in meeting new customers.

Interact daily face-to-face and using electronic communications with colleagues in both UK and
France, sub-contractors and customers to progress projects and opportunities.

resourcing, progress and risk and future opportunities.
7.
Work Context and Environment
The jobholder may either be office based or home based, travelling out to work with customers,
partners and suppliers/sub-contractors from time to time. The jobholder may need to spend several
days at a time on-site with customers, partners or sub-contractors before returning home. This will
require overnight stays away from home on occasions.
If home based, the jobholder will travel from home to ATDI’s headquarters in Gatwick from time to
time as needed to work with colleagues and attend meetings.
8.
Jobholder Characteristics
Degree in an electrical science (or equivalent) or equivalent experience.
Chartered Engineer and member of an institution focussing on an electrical science or equivalent.
Demonstrated ability in delivering consulting and/or computer solution projects.
At least 5 years experience in planning and/or modelling of radiocommunications systems or in the
management of the radio spectrum.
At least 3 years experience in solution architecture and/or consulting.
Able to attain security clearance (SC) to permit partnership on governmental projects.
Whilst most travel will be by public transport, a driving licence will be essential for times when hire
cars or own car would be more expedient.
