August Event: Dinner at Mackenzie River Pizza, Yay! You can enjoy lunch, dinner, or
take-out and raise money for the 2018 ELCA Youth Gathering youth. Join us Monday
August 21 for great food and fellowship. Event runs all day and our coupons will be
available early August.
Help Wanted: Assistant Sunday School Coordinator (5 hours/week)
Qualifications: The candidate must be passionate about Sunday School, education, and
sharing a living faith with the children of this congregation. Strong organizational skills
required. Duties to include:
 Plan and organize Rally Day activities
 Plan and organize Sunday School Christmas Program
 Plan and organize Spaghetti Dinner
 Set up and take down weekly Sunday School Activities

Pedometer Challenge: Today is the first LCGS Pedometer competition drawing for a
Charge 2 Fitbit. Good luck!
Noisy Offering: Today’s noisy offering proceeds will be going to our Sandwich Ministry.
Keenagers Resuming: Retirees of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd will
meet Friday, September 1 at 11:30am at St John’s. All retirees are invited to come for
lunch, enjoy the program, and join in good fellowship. Please sign-up at the kiosk in the
narthex. Registration is due by Friday, August 25 in order to ensure an accurate guest
list. Cost is $8.00 per person. For more information call Adeline Schmidt at 652-1738.

Job Opportunity: The preschool is seeking to hire a Lead Teacher for the 3 day morning
session. Qualifications include the following:
 A bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field
 The minimum educational requirement is a CDA credential plus 120 hours of approved
ECE training.
 At least two years of successful early childhood teaching experience

WELCA: Our August action project is assembling school items for children at the
Women’s and Children’s shelter. School items are already out in most stores and on
sale so it’s a great time to stock up. Items needed are as follow:
pencils with erasers
notebooks
ruled loose leaf paper blunt scissors
Crayons & markers

plastic rulers
pencil sharpeners
Donations may be left in the bin in the narthex.

St. John’s Summer Concert Series: The Summer Concert August 3 will be featuring
Victor Wainwright and the Wildroots, Chuck and Al’s Traveling Road Show will be the
opening act. Concert begins at 7:00pm on the St. John’s campus, food and beverages are
available. There is no charge for the concert, bring a lawn chair.
Help the Community: The Red Cross is hosting a “Meet & Greet” to share what they do
for the community in disaster situations, introduce you to current volunteers and staff, and
share ways volunteers made a difference in the lives of those affected by disaster. There is
no obligation, just learn and share the information with those you think would benefit from
volunteering their talents. With wildfire season upon us, additional volunteers are going to
be needed in order to be prepared. With your help, we can ensure the Red Cross is ready.
The “Meet and Greet” will be August 5, 2017 from 10:00am-2:00pm at the Billings Public
Library (510 N Broadway).
Navy Band Concert: St. John’s will be hosting a free concert August 17 in honor of Montana Navy Week, featuring The Navy Band. Concert begins at 7:00pm. Food and beverages will be available, bring your lawn chairs for seating.
