Blaise Pascal University has 31 laboratories within 6 scientific areas:
- Mathematics and Computer Science - Engineering Science - Science of
the Earth and of the Universe - Chemistry - Biology- Human and Social
Sciences.
More than half of these are partnered with the French National Centre for
Scientific Research (CNRS) and two with the French National Institute for
Agricultural Research (INRA). A network of federative research structures
is officially recognised by the CNRS and/or the Ministry : an observatory in
physics, a social sciences and humanities research institute, three research
federations in engineering, chemistry, and environment.
Postgraduate research is organised by the 4 Doctoral Schools in following
areas: Fundamental Sciences - Engineering Sciences - Arts, Human and
Social Sciences - Life and Health Sciences

Blaise Pascal University is a pluridisciplinary university with two main areas
of strength: arts and humanities; science, technology and engineering.
These include five faculties, an Institute of Technology, a teacher training
college and two integrated engineering schools: the Institute of Applied
Computer Science and Modelling (ISIMA) and Clermont Polytech.
The University also has a long tradition of welcoming foreign students (2200)
who come particularly to study in the context of European programmes
or under the terms of international co-operation agreements with 270
institutions situated all over the world. With 20 double degrees diploma at
bachelor’s and master’s level, an OMJ brand in geography, two Erasmus
mundus label in dance anthropology and engineering, several others
diplomas taught in English in business, geology, software engineering, the
University is really open to international students.
Strengths
• A Centre for French Language Teaching (FLEURA) which prepare students
to integrate diplomas through integrated programs campus based or by
distance learning.
• An important student life generated by the 35,000 students in the city and
over 100 sports and cultural activities which offers plenty of opportunities
for students to find friends.
• An association dedicated to international students: worldtop.
• A cost of living is inexpensive in comparison with other large student
cities in France and Europe and the monthly budget is estimated at
between €600 and €800.
Location
Clermont-Ferrand central position in France and Europe together make it
a perfect starting point for visiting others regions. Paris, Montpellier and
Bordeaux are accessible in three hours. UBP campuses are closed to the
city center and it the strong public transport network allows students to
discover easily the surroundings of Clermont- Ferrand, which offer a unique
occasion to discover extinct volcanoes knows as “Chaine des Puys”.
