They were on the road going up to Jerusalem, and
Jesus was walking on ahead of them; and they
were amazed, and those who followed were
fearful. And again He took the twelve aside and
began to tell them what was going to happen to
Him,
saying, “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and
the Son of Man will be delivered to the chief priests
and the scribes; and they will condemn Him to
death and will hand Him over to the Gentiles.
They will mock Him and spit on Him, and scourge
Him and kill Him, and three days later He will rise
again.”

Even on a colt, the foal of a donkey.

He came to be our Passover lamb
This was the day the lambs were selected for
the Passover sacrifice
 Josephus writes in one account of 256,500
 Jesus would have literally been surrounded by
them
 Jesus is killed with these lambs, becoming our
Passover lamb!

The Hour Has Come
What does Jesus’ response tell us?
 Jesus’ hour had finally come
Jesus’ answer was not what was expected
They were used to hearing, “My time has not
yet come” – John 2:4; 7:6,8; 7:30; 8:20
 Somehow linked to the coming of the Gentiles
 These Greeks are a sign that Jesus’ sacrifice
would be for the whole world
 John focuses on the contrast between the
rejecting Pharisees and the seeking Gentiles!

What does Jesus’ response tell us?
 Jesus had to be glorified



First, Jesus’ circle was expanding, not constricting
We often try to break into the inner circle
Jesus was about expanding that circle – Rev 5:9-10
Revelation 5:9-10 (NASB)
9
And they *sang a new song, saying,
“Worthy are You to take the book and to
break its seals; for You were slain, and
purchased for God with Your blood men
from every tribe and tongue and people
and nation.
10 “You have made them to be a kingdom
and priests to our God; and they will
reign upon the earth.”

Second, Jesus was to be glorified by the cross
It is not the example of Jesus that saves
It is Jesus Himself that saves through His sacrifice
on the cross

Application
Is Jesus your Passover lamb?
Have you received Him as your Savior?
Are you believing in Jesus’ example or in
Jesus your once and for all sacrifice for your
sin?
Are you constantly asking, “I would like to
see Jesus”?
