The course involves both theory and practical work in designing and production. Applied crafts Quiz, Projects, Papers, Presentations and Final exam with exhibition Date validated: Course aims: Learning outcomes: Indicative syllabus content: February 2013 The aims of this course are to: 1. to improve knowledge of the traditional arts and crafts 2. to improve knowledge of the old handcraft 3. to increase students knowledge of cultural heritage 4. to increase students knowledge of basic visual elements in traditional art 5. to develop new designs which include basic elements of traditional art 6. to develop new creative possibility in material culture 7. to develop new aesthetic value in visual art On successful completion of this course IUS student will be able to: 1. demonstrate knowledge and understanding of traditional art form in relation to cultural and societal contexts. 2. demonstrate knowledge and understanding the visual language of traditional art form 3. develop an idea, a theme or a personal interpretation 4. apply skills, techniques and process to create 5. be respective to art practices and artworks from various cultures, including their own This course covers art experience at the end of XIX century and XX century. This period includes connection between arts and crafts. We will study Art styles such as Art Nova, de Stijl and Bauhaus school. We have to understand these art movements to use their experience in our art process. We will learn how to make composition with different visual elements which are based on traditional patterns. Then we will study how to apply our drawing composition on different products such as wool paper, covers, carpets, pieces of clothing and art tapestry. Focus will be on the process of making unique tapestry. This course consist of theory and practice. We will learn the complete process of creation from historical values, to developing ideas, designing and to making final products. Weekly lectures and tutorials (3 hours per week).
