Each set of Sweet 'N Sassy Templates™ consists of three different sizes of rhombus shapes. Each shape can be cut
from strips and sewn together to create a design.
Cutting from One Fabric:
Template #1:
Cut 2 1/2" strips. Place Template #1 over this strip and cut around the template on all sides.
Template #2:
Cut 3 1/2" strips. Place Template #2 over this strip and cut around the template on all sides.
Template #3:
Cut 5 1/2" strips. Place Template #3 over this strip and cut around the template on all sides.
These Rhombus Units can also be cut from pieced strips. For instance:
Piecing the Large Rhombus from Strips:
1. Cut two - 2" strips of coordinating prints the width of the fabric. (These units will be trimmed after sewing is
complete so pre-cut strips or scraps that are at least 2" wide can be used.)
Sew these strips together with a 1/4" seam. Press the seam toward the dark fabric.
2. Place the Creative Grids® #2 Rhombus Template on the strip set - matching the line on the template to the seam
line. Rotary cut along each angled edge. Each strip set yields twelve units. The top and bottom edges will be
trimmed when the units are sewn together.
3. Place the Creative Grids® #2 Rhombus Template on the wrong side of each unit. Mark the 1/4" seam allowance
through the hole with a water soluble marker.
4. Place two units - right sides together - reversing fabrics. Pin through the marked dots to match seams.
5. Sew these units together with a 1/4" seam. Press this seam open. Place the Creative Grids® #2 Rhombus
Template on this pieced unit - matching the lines on the template with the seam lines.
6. Trim the fabric even with the template on all sides. (Save the two end pieces. These can be sewn into a miniature
version using the Creative Grids® #1 Rhombus Template.)
Piecing the Small Rhombus (from Scraps):
1. Place the Creative Grids® #2 Rhombus Template on the wrong side of each end piece. Mark the 1/4" seam
allowance through the hole with a water soluble marker.
2. Place two units - right sides together - reversing fabrics. Pin through the marked dots to match seams.
3. Sew these units together with a 1/4" seam. Press this seam open. Place the Creative Grids® #1 Rhombus
Template on this pieced unit - matching the lines on the template with the seam lines.
4. Trim the fabric even with the template on all sides. These mini's can be used to make a miniature version of the
original design.
These templates are used in several designs created by Phyllis Anderson. See her patterns for complete
