Volunteers enjoyed an afternoon walk
along the minus tide in Carpinteria, our
destination the Harbor Seal Rookery. The
nesting area is active from December to
May each year and on our visit there were
30 pups and 96 adults on the beach. Naturalist Cathy Rose, led the group identifying
native dune plants, shore birds, and kelp.
Look for more volunteer field trips to be
announced in the upcoming weeks via the Weekly Volunteer Update. We are hoping
to schedule a Figueroa Mountain wildflower trip and an Aliso Loop hike this spring.

CA Native Plant Society Meeting
SPRING FORWARD
Sunday, March 8th
All volunteers are invited to attend the CNPS Channel Island Chapter
meeting on Thursday, 3/16 from 7:15p to 9p in our Blaksley Library. Come hear guest
speaker Spencer Westbrook. Spencer, an outstanding nature photographer, will share
his knowledge of where the best places to find spring wildflower spots in California. His
talk and slide show will be just in time for us to experience a great wildflower display in
the spring of 2015 because of all the rain we will get (fingers crossed). Channel Islands
Chapter Board meeting will precede the talk beginning at 6PM. Bring your unknown
native plants to ID before the talk. Click here for their latest newsletter.
