Game, set and match for weeds with new molecule
The registration of a new herbicide molecule will give greater control to growers when tackling
broadleaf weeds.
Sharpen is a wettable granule formulation that contains the new active ingredient, KIXOR.
Sharpen was registered for use this month in knockdown and fallow situations and is highly active
against a range of broadleaf weeds prior to planting, including hard-to-control weeds such as
fleabane, capeweed, sowthistle (also known as milkthistle), wild radish and marshmallow.
Geoff Raymond, Business Manager for Nufarm , said with the increase of fleabane across the eastern
state, it was important that growers implemented an effective control strategy.
“Sharpen is very effective on small, actively growing fleabane, which is much easier to control at this
stage,” he said.
“Our extensive field testing has shown very good results where Sharpen is used in conjunction with
Roundup Attack with iQ inside to control fleabane and other broadleaf and grass weeds.”
Mr Raymond said this combination of Sharpen and Roundup Attack with iQ inside would provide
control of most of the key weeds that are present prior to planting of many summer and winter
crops.
“Sharpen delivers effective control under good growing conditions in 1-4 days and is highly effective
at very low rates.
“It also has a rainfast period of one hour and a short plantback window in most cereal and grain
legume crops.”
Sharpen is now available from Nufarm distributors nationwide. More information can be found by
