Dear Church Leader, Salt and Light – that`s what we are called to be

Dear Church Leader,
Salt and Light – that’s what we are called to be and that’s what we want to challenge your students to be. As an
extension of the church, Pine Haven desires to come alongside and help develop our students into servant leaders,
challenging them to consider their calling and their involvement in the church and, through the church, in their
community. At Pine Haven, we have a unique opportunity to bring several students from our churches together to
serve alongside staff and faculty at camp while they study and learn from various church leaders and camp faculty,
growing in their understanding of service, ministry, leadership and their relationship with Christ.
The purpose of this session is to challenge a handful of 10-12 grade students to servant leadership within and
through the church for Kingdom purposes both at camp and back at home. Students will have opportunity to
experience service at camp in both staff and faculty capacities but will also spend time working with their home
church ministers on a plan for serving their church and serving their community through their church.
During the two weeks, students will participate in a camp service project and daily camp chores, serve alongside
faculty helping to lead a family group session and an all group camp activity and glean from life-long faithful leaders
attending Adult Weekend camp. Besides these hands on learning activities, they will have daily devotions, bible
studies and will be taught by leaders from across the state in challenging messages from God’s word.
Leadership training will include faculty and staff development, the art of conversation, cultivating their
relationship with Christ and team building/team leadership. They will have opportunity to consider how God can
combine their gifts, skills and personality for Kingdom purposes. Campers will also participate in a Two-Day
Canoe/Camping trip, team building activities, a high-ropes character challenge course and, of course, enjoy their
new and old friends at camp. They’ll get in some of their much loved camp activities as well – Flicker, Kayaking,
Swimming, Canteen and more will be enjoyed during free time.
In partnership, we ask that you recommend the Servant Leadership Training camp to any youth in whom you see
leadership potential or whom you believe this Leadership Training camp could help to develop. They must be
entering the 10th, 11th or 12th grades in the fall of 2017. We will be accepting a maximum of 10 campers for the
program, so we encourage you to talk with your students and encourage them to apply as soon as possible.
The fee of the camp program is $110.00 to cover the cost of expenses for the two weeks. Instead of registering as
usual, campers need to fill out and send in an application along with two recommendations from church leaders.
You can copy the attached application if you need more than one. Downloads of the application,
recommendations and the poster are available on our website at www.pinehavencamp.org under the “Serve” tab.
Thank you for partnering with us in all of our camp programs, but particularly in helping to develop leaders for our
churches. If you have any questions, please call us at 218-366-1391.
