JP2 Athlete Award Policy
Purpose:
1. To recognize outstanding participation and achievement.
2. To encourage our athletes to strive for excellence.
3. To provide a focus for school spirit and pride.

Junior and Senior Athletes of the Year
SPECTRA Award Nominees

Team Awards (MIP, MVP, Special Awards)
*1-3 are determined by the Selection and Review Committee; 4 is determined by team coaches.
Selection and Review Committee:





Administrator responsible for Athletics
AD
HPE Department Head
One female staff member that is a coach
One male staff member that is a coach
*Coaches of nominees will be asked for their input to aid in the decision making process.
Criteria for Athlete of the Year:




Junior – in Grade 9 or 10
Senior – in Grade 11 or 12
The athlete must have participated in at least two sports in the school year.
The athlete must exhibit the following personal qualities:
- leadership
- is coachable
- dependable and reliable
- exemplary behavior towards teammates, opponents, officials and coaches
- has not quit a JP2 team at any time in their high school career OR if they have, the
circumstances must be considered and waived by the Selection and Review Committee
- MIP, MVP or Special Awards won the athlete
Criteria for the SPECTRA Nomination:

The following are taken into consideration when selecting the nominees for SPECTRA:
- variety of sports played
- MIP, MVP or Special Awards won
- leadership roles on teams
- involvement in Students Council
- leadership roles within the school
- overall academic average
- community involvement and volunteering
- sportsmanship and coachability
- commitment to athletics, community, and school
Criteria for Team Awards:


MIP
- good sportsmanship
- dedication
- hard working
- excellent team spirit
- good attendance for practices and games
MVP
-athletic leadership
- a high level of athletic performance and skill
- an integral part of the team’s performance and success
