RiserSafe® is a bespoke cast in safety system which creates and protects service riser
openings. Providing a safe working platform for following trades. A fixing point for both
fire and separating drywalls and heavy M&E services. This allows the construction site
team to look at the right strategy for their project and not be driven by the need to manage
the risk.
Having worked with Ambar Kelly previously at South Bristol Community Hospital project
with great success when Tidal Basin was being tendered we engaged Ambar Kelly to
review the possible benefits that could be achieved using the RiserSafe® option. The
following was identified and RiserSafe® is being employed on the project.

Benefits to Tidal Basin:
 CDM 2015 criminal liability on Principal contractor risk eliminated.
 Void/riser protection managed at the floor construction stage through to the
final fit out stage.
 Riser unit can be used as a permanent shutter for horizontal fire protection,
spread of smoke & flames during the construction phase and for the permanent
building fire solution.
 Risk of falling from height in the riser zones eliminated.
 Consolidation of small riser openings into a reduced number of units.
 No need to build concrete walls or introduce beams to support walls
 No formwork.
 No hand rails required.
 Reduced Carillion management time.
 Smoke shaft grating built in to the unit offering w100 mesh with 85% free area
and a safe shaft working platform.
 Concrete pump pipe feed through RiserSafe® unit no obstruction or hazard.
 Extra service’s openings can be cut in to the RiserSafe® floor plate,
 Fixing the price for the riser zone.
 Unit used to provide weather tightness for riser zone.
 No scaffolding prelim creep
 Safe unobstructed working platform for trades working within the riser area.
Things to consider:
 Small risk fund set aside for repainting the RiserSafe® floor plate as they will
get dusty and scuffed during construction.
 Developing the M&E coordination as soon as possible to increase further
savings by early planning.
 Don’t look at RiserSafe® in isolation of a frame package as the product saves
money across the project.
Summary
RiserSafe® is an efficient way of taking away risk and unintended spend, the key to being
successful on individual schemes is looking at the holistic costs of a project and not just
the entry price.
