Enter transfer orders for potential transfers
Reference StarPanel and paper copy of
orders in the medical record ( blue chart) at
the patient bedside.
DO NOT ENTER INTO HEO ANY ORDERS
WRITTEN DURING DOWNTIME- IT MAY
RESULT IN DUPLICATES
Review Nursing documentation in blue
chart.
Enter Discharge orders for potential
discharges including completing discharge
letter
Write orders on Physician Order Sheet
(POS) in the Medical Record (blue chart) at
the patient’s bedside
• Sign orders, print name, and denote
contact #( beeper , etc)
• Use only Black Ball Point Pens and
press hard enough to go through all copies
Pharmacy will enter medications.
Nursing will enter nonmedication on going
orders.
It may take several hours for all orders to
be “caught up”.

Admissions- include Attending, Service,
Team and allergies.
Transfers ONLY- denote orders on the
Transfer Order sheet in the blue chart- line
through orders to discontinue, denote
edits, write new orders on blank lines.
Discharges- write discharge orders and
discharge instructions on POS. Enter Rx in
RX star.
Special Considerations
TPN ordering New orders- write Order to
consult TPN team, TPN
Pharmacist will complete order
form
 Existing TPN- TPN team will
adjust TPN based on labs.

Renew restraint orders
•System Support will be
rounding
Reference paper nursing documentation for
events during downtime.
Cumulative I&O and last set of VS will be
entered into HED and will display in
StarPanel.
Insulin Drip & Electrolyte
Replacement Protocols- RNs will
adjust rate according to
protocol
Nurse Managed Heparin
Protocol will revert to Provider
Managed Heparin Protocol – RN
will call HO will PTT result and
adjust orders.
Restraints- Charge nurse will
contact HO to renew and after
downtime is over
Code Status orders- Enter in
StarForm as well as complete DT
Code Status form ( Edocs)
