AFTDA supports people who are caring for those with Fronto-Temporal Dementia (FTD) - a
young onset form of dementia. It is a progressive brain disease, which causes changes in behaviour,
personality and language skills. There is no cure. All we have is care and support.

financial support, we realized, as a new organization, we didn’t yet have the
resources – AND we wanted to apply every dollar raised to achieving our objectives.

The Australian Fronto-Temporal Dementia Association
was established to promote the understanding, prevention and management of
Fronto-temporal dementia (FTD), from carer to cure.
It’s objectives are to:
• promote and fund research in finding the cause, therapies and cures for FTD;
• provide information, education and support to the families and caregivers of
persons diagnosed with FTD;
• educate physicians and allied heath professionals about FTD and how to improve
patient care;
• bring about greater public awareness of the nature and prevalence of FTD and
the needs of those who are coping with it;
• advocate with public officials and promote public and private programs that
provide health care and social services; and
• facilitate the international exchange of ideas.
As a first step AFTDA is currently working to promote support groups for carers of
people with FTD around Australia.
