What is ASL Classifier?
• Classifiers are designated handshapes and/or rulegrounded body pantomime used to represent nouns and
verbs. The purpose of the classifier is to provide additional
information about nouns and verbs such as: location, kind of
action, size, shape and manner. ASL has many classifier
handshapes to represent specific categories or class of
objects.

What is one-person role shift?
One-person role shift allows the narrator to show how a character
behaves. The narrator becomes the character, taking on his/her actions,
manners and feelings.

What is two-person role shift?
Two-person role shift allows the narrator to show interactions between
two characters in a story. The narrator shifts between the two
characters, adopting each character’s actions, manners, and feelings
as well as comments.
