FINAL FROSH STATS SHOW FOUR PLAYERS
AVERAGING IN DOUBLE FIGURES
MISSOULA--Four University of Montana freshman basketball starting players wrapped up the Cubs'
8-10 season averaging in double figures, and the fifth starter ended the year as the best
field goal shooter.
Guard Don Wetzel of Cut Bank (18.5), guard Mike Heroux of Manasha, Wis.
(13.4),
f0 1 ward Jerry (Cork) Hill of Columbia Falls (11.2) and forward Les Gordon of Dillon (10.3)
paced the scoring averages, while center Tony Bertuca of Chicago, 111. was close behind
at 9.1.
Bertuca, only 6-2, led the team in final field goal percentage, hitting on 48.8 per
cent of his attempts.
He was also third in rebounding with 8.5 per game.
The high-leaping Hill topped rebounders with 10.6 per game, followed by Gordon, who
came on strong in this department at the end of the season, with 9.6 per game.
Irailing Bertuca in field goal shooting were
Hill with 45.4 per cent, reserve forward
Tom O'Neil of Butte with 41.9 per cent, and Wetzel with 40.8 per cent.

Wetzel with 67.9 per cent and Hill and Gordon with 66.7 per cent each.
'As a team, the Cubs shot 39.2 per cent on field goals and 63.8 per cent on free
throws, averaged 76.5 points per game and grabbed 44.1 rebounds per game not counting
team rebounds.

cent), led in rebounding (44.5 per
game), and trailed in scoring average
(75 per game).

Don Wetzel was the leading scorer in 12 of the 18 games, while Hill and Gordon led
rebounds the most times, seven apiece.
