一、课程描述
I Course Description
This course is an introduction to the management function. It will focus on the
theory and fundamental concepts of management including planning, organization,
leadership, and control. This class will review the evolution of management thought,
function and practice and will stress current approaches and emerging concepts.
The course has been deliberately designed to foster your learning through different
teaching methods such as lectures, case analyses, team work, and other experiential
exercises. A variety of classic and contemporary materials drawn from textbooks,
book chapters, scholarly articles, and the popular press will also be used.
二、课程目的与教学要求
II Aims and Objectives
This course provides a framework for understanding the opportunities and
challenges involved in managing by taking a “systems” view of organizations. This

means that we will examine multiple aspects of how managers address their
environments, people and tasks. The content, readings and activities we engage in will
help you better understand how organizations and managers work in reality. Moreover,
students can learn about how to effectively contribute to the organizations you join in
the future.
For students, please follow the rules as follows.
 You are expected to be in class, on time, prepared to discuss the material
assigned. (Please notify the instructor about special medical conditions
which merit an exception.)
 Participate in the lecture proactively.
 Leaving during a class session should occur only for emergencies.
 No food and electronic facilities (mobile, computer, video, etc.) in class.
 Contribute as an active and responsible member when working with other
students.
 Foster a climate of respect for both other class members and the instructor.

Class Outline:
What is organization, management and managers? How to define managers? The
development history of management theory.
Questions for discussion:
1. Who Are Managers?
Explain how managers differ from non-managerial employees.

• Explain why efficiency and effectiveness are important to management.

Class Outline:
The parameters of managerial discretion, dimensions of organizational culture,

1.what is the four steps in managing external stakeholder relationships?

Please think about your previous experience in planning to realize a high goal

An in-depth managerial analysis of a selected organization, e.g., a corporation, company,
firm or association (ideally, an organization which the students have some interest in
