Teacher- Ms. Wainman
Note to Students & Parents/Guardians of Honors Biology
1) Communication---Please feel free to contact me whenever needed- [email protected].
An e-mail is especially helpful when a student misses class either planned (appointments) or
unplanned (illness). I will be glad to e-mail our activities for the day and help the student stay caught
up in class. When a students KNOWS they will be missing, please tell me ahead of time—this
includes leaving early for a sports game.
I will be using Google classroom this year--- please remind students to check it for announcements
and important information that will be going on in my classroom.
2) TEXTBOOKS--- my textbooks can be assessed on the Google classroom page--- students will be
given a password to use this Holt site---this means your child will NOT have to haul a huge Biology
book around!!!! If there is a problem with using the internet for the textbook--- I will issue your child
a book—but this book should be KEPT AT HOME---not hauled back and forth--- I have a set of
books for the classroom only—if a student needs to work on homework during a study hall—they may
check-out one of my class books.---PLEASE DO NOT HAUL textbooks back and forth from home &
school.
Honors Biology will follow the recommended school grade scale…
Grade Scale: A 100%-92% B 91%-83% C 82%-74% D 73%-65%
Honors Biology class materials---2016- 2017
1) ONE standard 3-ring binder— with a couple dividers
needs 1 inch rings—the very basic style – this one may remain in the
classroom for our lab work & vocab - please just the very basic style
Optional but recommended---another ring-binder with larger with 1 ½ -- 2 inch rings—this one
can be whatever the student prefers to use—this will be where ALL Biology papers
will be kept
2) Optional but Highly recommended---Expanding File Organizer (some stores call it an
Accordion Folder)--- the style with 5-7 folders within 1 that expands as papers are
added--- this seems the best suggestion for those students who tend to have some
organizational issues—this can be used for all classes to carry homework back & forth
to school. PAST STUDENTS HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS ITEM!
3) Ink pens---- will need a couple RED and also Blue or Black
4) Pencils with erasers -Be sure the lead is #2
5) Basic scientific calculator--- make sure it can do square roots and exponents or just
use the one required for math
