AIME’S COMMITMENT TO YOU
INITIATIVES
AIME is proud to offer a dynamic environment of learning and development for its staff. AIME is committed to building Australia’s future
leaders – Indigenous and non-Indigenous – and providing an environment that brings all of these future leaders together to deliver the highest quality,
most effective mentoring program available to Indigenous high school kids across our nation; so that they can finish school at the same rate as every
Australian child. AIME has some key initiatives that enable staff to learn and grow:
1. AIME Institute & Learning and Development Days
The AIME Institute provides up to 14 days each year where teams comes together to touch base, reflect, regroup and refine our skills and
focus for the next stage.
At some of the AIME Institutes, the whole team will come together to attend workshops run by some of Australia’s leading organizations including
Google, Hidden Door, NIDA, Atlassian, The Happiness Institute, University lecturers and Indigenous and non-Indigenous leaders. Themes include:
Leadership, Management, Communication, Team Synergy, Culture and many more.
2. AIME Professional Mentoring and Leadership Program
Our commitment to mentoring also extends to our staff who are encouraged to pargticipate in professional mentoring. AIME assists staff to
connect with some of Australia’s current leaders, to grow and learn from their experience, and to then feed it back into our day-to-day work.
The following, are an example of the calibre of people who have been involved as Professional Mentors with AIME: Chris Sarra (Executive
Director, Stronger Smarter Institute), Ronni Khan (Founder, OzHarvest), Adam Spencer (ABC Radio), Greg Hutchinson (Executive Partner,
Bain &
Company), Marion Potts (Artistic Director, Malthouse Theatre), Duncan Peppercorn (Head of Consulting, Social Ventures Australia), Shane
Phillips (Australia’s Local Hero 2013), and many more.
3. Happiness at AIME
Fluro Friday- On the last Friday of every month, everyone in the company rocks and item of fluro clothing. For at least an hour, every
AIME staff member runs to nature to reflect about their personal and professional achievements.
Thankful Tuesdays- Every second Tuesday every AIME staff member has the chance to write a hand written note to someone in their
life, personal or professional who has helped them love the life they live.
4. Chief Happiness Officer
Through a partnership with the Happiness Institute AIME has a dedicated Chief Happiness Officer who works with the whole team at
the AIME Institute, supports teams throughout the year and provides intensive coaching for selected staff members.
5. Access to world class training opportunities
It could be a presentation and communications workshop with NIDA, a financial management program with Accounting for Good, or a trip
to San Francisco to attend the Dreamforce conference; when you work at AIME, opportunities seem to come at you.
6. Study and Development Leave: 5 days (permanent staff only, pro-rata)
Each AIME staff member will receive an extra 5 days of leave that can be directed towards the staff member’s development. It may mean
that some staff choose to complete a course, others may wish to do some reading or writing, others may simply take the time to
experience new perspectives through conferences or festivals. Staff simply apply for the extra leave, and then can use the pay for those 5
days of study and development leave and direct it towards something they want to do. Examples of previous Study and Development
Leave opportunities include: Stanford Business Executive Program, Masters of Business Administration (part-time), Australian Graduate
School of Management General Managers Program, First Aid Course etc.
7. Cultural Leave: 3 days (permanent staff only, pro-rata)
Each staff member will also receive 3 days of cultural leave each year. Basically this was brought in to give all of our staff, Indigenous and
non-Indigenous, the chance to build their connection with Indigenous Australia. For many of our Indigenous staff it’s a chance to get back
home, to learn language, or maybe even to go to visit another mob. Then for our non-Indigenous staff, it’s a chance to really build that
connection point around what it means to be Australian, a chance to maybe volunteer for another Indigenous organisation, or head off with
an Indigenous AIME staff member to their country, or attend festivals such as Garma. A strong connection to Indigenous Australia makes us
all much richer in terms of our history, identity and sense of belonging as Australians.
8. Legend Leave: 1 day (permanent staff only, pro-rata)
Each AIME staff member has the opportunity to take one day each year to dedicate themselves to another charity of their choice. AIME staff
have used their legend leave to get involved with organisations like Ronald McDonald House, Batyr, Compass Program, NASCA Arm Tour,
BestBuddies, Dance Chance and RSPCA.
9. Parental Leave (permanent staff only, pro-rata)
Each AIME staff member is entitled to 2 weeks paid parental leave and 4 weeks working from home per year, for the first 2 years of a
child entering your care.
