The day was full of ups, downs and momentum swings. The game really could have gone either way in the end. There was some really tight bowling in patches which increased the pressure and wickets started to fall on regular occurrences, solid performances by; Johnny Baker, 3 / 21 (6 overs) Adrian (Normy) Sheridan, 2 / 16 (8 overs) Kappil Sharma, 1 / 16 (8 overs) We started the chase well in front of the required run rate but were losing wickets regularly and this seems to sum up our batting performance throughout the innings. Most batsmen getting a start, then getting themselves out, which was disappointing. There were some great catches taken by the opposition which really proved that catches win matches. We too had our opportunities throughout the day, unfortunately they did not swing our way (this time). We need to hit the training track hard (working on the basic 1 percenters) and hit the ground running for this week’s match against Belmont. 3rd Grade – Brendan Clark Carlisle 7/179 DEFEATED Ascot 8/177 Facebook Join us on facebook and keep up to date with the latest news and events. EFTPOS is now available at the bar to purchase drinks, cash out or pay fees. We had a bit of a fight in our opening match of the New Year. The mighty 3rd grade showed a lot of back bone and grit to come out on top this game. We elected to bowl first, the skip preferring our chances chasing in the one day format. I think it was fair to say that we all thought it wasn’t going to be a fun day when at drinks they were 85 for none, looking down the barrel of a big 200+ total. But the flow of runs dried up with some tight / unlucky off spin (a caught behind not given, guy even admitted it but didn't walk, and a drop catch in the field) from the Colonel and Moz’s bag of tricks as well. Then the Skip came on and did what the Skip does best and bowled full and straight, knocking off both the openers and number three. Then Moz came back on and made his mark taking 4 wickets in three overs, he was on a hatch twice, the fourth and fifth times this year. You know what they say sixth times the charm. Again holding catches was our down fall. Not for Rohit behind the stumps though he caught everything that came his way and appealed like everything got an edge too. Great to have you back mate, loved the enthusiasm. In the end Ascot made 8/177. A tough ask on any day. The chase started with an absolute Hiss and a RAW! 3 boundary’s in the first over, with gunshot sounding cut shots from the Colonel. Things were looking up. The whole top order Pete, Matt L, Danny, Matt H got starts again, good signs for the rest of the year, but couldn’t quite kick on. Then an unlikely hero came to the crease the Bali blonde streaked lefty, Sammy!! Something was different about Sammy he was organised, he ran with purpose, left the ball well, he had all the time in the world to play his shots. Including 2 big sixes. Whatever has got into him I hope it sticks around. Supported by two little gem cameos from Jobby and Caddy we got home with two balls to spare on the back of easily the best innings Sammy has hit for the club in years. 71 no, he never looked like getting out, take a bow Sammy. Well done 3rd grade we never gave up, everyone contributed to a great win that has got us off to the start that we needed this year. Woof! Woof! 5th Grade – Peter Anderson Round 8 - Carlisle 5/177 defeated Coolbinia West Perth 10/125 Won the toss and for the first time this season we batted first. A good opening partnership of 46 with Cam Whitting making 25. Good contributions from the rest with Hendo making a quick 27 (3 sixes and a four) and a career high 74no from the stand-in skipper. Social Events Quiz night on Saturday 7th Feb 2015. Please donate any prizes to Leanne or Elaine from now until Feb Coolbinia came out swinging from the start but Jimmy Singh in his first game in 5th grade this season was too good for them finishing with 5/33, backed up by another good spell from Vinny with 3/18. In the end a solid win against one of the bottom teams. Round 9 Carlisle 6/261 defeated Bayswater-Postels 8/146 First game of the new year and we lost the toss and were sent into bat by an under strength Bayswater team BIG MISTAKE. The bowling was not good with the first over taking 18 balls. We were off to a flying start with the ‘Jago’ smashing 60 in the first 12 overs and the 100 was already up when he got out. More runs to Cam Whitting with his first fifty (51), Ando 37, Manu 30 and 50 sundries saw us get an unbeatable score of 6/261. If 261 wasn’t enough, 2 early wickets each to Jimmy Singh and Vinny had Bayswater 4 for 17 and the rest of the day was them just trying to survive and they finished on 8 for 146. Best bowling figures Vinny (3/23) Jimmy (2/19) and Cam McShane (2/22). First time this season we have beaten a team in the top four and keeps our finals hopes alive plus sets up a virtual semi-final with Leederville to make the one-day final in the last one day game on the 24th January. But first, it’s Mt Lawley this week and it’s 4th vs 5th and so it goes without saying this is another really important game. 7th Grade – Round 9 - bye Round 8 Carlisle 4/264 defeated Ascot 9/126 Well it came down to my 4th loss of the toss this year and surprisingly Ascot put us in (big mistake). We got off to a great start before Jowsey had the usual swing at the wrong ball and edged to be caught behind with the score on 30. Then our newest player Matt Luhrs came in as Ray Smith was away (soft) and together we put on 103 with Matt out for 35. Next in MR COOMBES and again another 120 partnership before I was out for 146 (personal best). Coombes was out on the next ball for 39. Great effort to end up 4/264. We ended up having Ascot 9/129 with the pick of the bowlers being aàrrrggghhhh Daz Nelson taking 5/9 from 8 overs. Next was Neeraj Khanna 2/35 Alwin 1/22 and AJ 1/20. Still undefeated with Karrinyup this week and playing them where we have already beaten them so I expect another grand performance from the boys to do it again.
