Russian Play (new)

The aim of this course will be to rehearse and perform the one-act play
by Roger Cockrell ‘Carrying On’. The play centres on an imagined
meeting between two of Russia’s greatest authors, Lev Tolstoy and
Fyodor Dostoevsky, as they travel by train from Moscow to St Petersburg
in the late 1870s. Soon their conversation reveals fundamental
differences between them that threaten to erupt into open warfare. In
each case, as becomes apparent, their attitudes and beliefs have been
transformed by particularly traumatic episodes in their past lives. The
performance, which will be in English, will take place in the Town Hall
Council Chamber at 12 noon on Tuesday 23rd May.
