SFR 101 Woodlot Boundaries Prepared by W.H. Livingston August 2014 Boundary Lines for the Tanglewood Woodlot It is important to observe if property lines and clearly marked for a woodlot. Therefore, one of the first tasks for woodlot management is to walk the boundary lines. Use the deed description to find corners and description of the boundaries. To do this, you’ll need to: Use a compass to find the approximate azimuth of the boundary as stated in the description. Pace the distance from the initial boundary corner so that you’ll have an idea as to when the next boundary corner should appear. Make notes as to the forest type present on the site. Measure the azimuths and distances of the Tanglewood Woodlot based on the deed description: “Beginning at the intersection of Forest Loop Trail and Turner Falls Trail, proceed Northeasterly along the Turner Falls Trail approximately 1,500 feet until the Ducktrap River. Thence proceed Northwesterly along said river approximately 600 feet, thence proceed Southwesterly approximately 1,200 feet until the Forest Loop Trail. Thence proceed Southeasterly along the trail approximately 800 ft until returning to the beginning Contains approximately 16 acres.” Each corner is marked by a PVC pipe. Record your measures (azmuth and distance) and notes in the attached table. 1) A line refers to each segment along the property line. a) Enter the line label, azimuth, and distance for each time you pace a distance. b) Use the same line label, e.g., T1-T2, as long as you have the same bearing. c) When you reach a corner, enter in “TOTAL for line A” and sum the distances for that line and enter the value in the “Distance” column. 2) Set the next heading and start using “T2-T3” for the next line label. 3) Continue the process until you end up at where you started. 4) Note: Convert bearings to azimuths (e.g., S 37 W = 180+37 = 217º). 5) Notes can indicate how the boundary is marked (cleared trail, “blazed” trees, pipes) and the forest type at that location. Take notes about every 200 feet about the stand type (next page). 1 SFR 101 Woodlot Boundaries Prepared by W.H. Livingston August 2014 2 SFR 101 Woodlot Boundaries Prepared by W.H.
