Role
To supervise and provide a flexible and comprehensive cleaning service to an agreed standard and as required.
Remit
Responsibilities and Accountability
1. To work with the Housekeeping – Team Leader & Cleaner in that person’s absence, covering sickness,
annual leave and training. To supervise staff Monday to Friday & to deputise on Saturdays for the House
Keeper Team Leader who will not be present.
2. To be responsible for opening the building at the designated time, as requested by the business need. To
un-lock College buildings, as required by Facilities Manager, ensuring that the alarms are deactivated at the
beginning of the shift. Ensure access is only granted to cleaning and catering staff. The buildings are to be
secure until the Duty Steward assumes their security duties at the scheduled times.
3. Ensure that the College is cleaned in accordance with Cleaning Specification ensuring that the College
standards are adhered to and met consistently.
4. To supervise the cleaning staff in the absence of the Housekeeper Team Leader to include:
 Allocation of duties and cleaning rotas.
 Managing the staffing resources available to cover holidays, sickness or other absence.
 Issuing stores and consumables, advise House Keeping - Team leader & Cleaner of requirements for
stores.
 Monitoring the quality and standards of the provision in a timely manner.
5. Assist with the leadership, coordination and management for the College Cleaning Team ensuring a high
level of interface to the customers and users of the College.
6. Effectively coordinate the workflow, use of systems and processes of the team to ensure the efficient
running of the Cleaning Team.
7. To assist in managing, planning and organising of the Cleaning Team.

At all times to ensure the Health and Safety and the security of the Cleaning staff and property in any
designated area including COSHH and other relevant regulations.
9.
To work flexibly in allocating duties to the Cleaning Team taking into account room usage.
10.
Report any building repairs, acts of vandalism or evidence of vermin infestation to the Facilities Manager.
General Cleaning Duties
1. Carry out cleaning duties in accordance with the cleaning specification which includes:2. Empty waste bins and deposit refuse into central bins for onward transportation by others.
3. Cleaning of floor coverings by mop sweeping, suction cleaning, wet mopping of buffing as appropriate for
the floor finish (including the removal of chewing gum).

4. Cleaning of toilets, urinals, wash hand basins and sinks (including all associated items such as lids and taps).
5. Cleaning of walls, skirting’s, ledges, windows (inside only), pipe work and light fittings as appropriate
6. Check and restock washroom consumables as required.
7. Undertake additional duties as may be reasonably required, commensurate with the level of responsibility.

This procedure is conducted jointly by the manager and the post-holder. You will therefore be expected to participate fully
in such discussions with a view to reaching agreement on any changes felt to be necessary. If agreement is not possible,
management reserves the right to insist on changes to your roles and responsibilities in line with your grade/level in the
organisation, after consultation with you.
Within the limitations set out in your contract, working hours are flexible and can be subject to variation depending on
business need. They may, for example, include weekends and evenings.

Education/Qualifications and Experience
Previous cleaning experience in commercial cleaning (Ideally in a
educational setting)
Supervisory experience
Desirable
Relevant NVQ in Cleaning
Skills and Knowledge
Ability to work as part of a team and alone.
Ability to prioritise work and to accept/give instruction
Knowledge of Health and Safety requirements particularly in
respect of cleaning.
