Key Competency of the Week
Matariki is found low on the horizon in the north east of the sky.
Try looking here between 5.30 a.m. and 6.30 a.m.
RELATING TO OTHERS

During Matariki we celebrate our unique place in the world.
We give respect to the whenua on which we live,
and admiration to our mother earth Papatūānuku.
Throughout Matariki we learn about those who came before us.
Our history. Our family. Our bones.
Matariki signals growth.
It’s a time of change.
It’s a time to prepare, and a time of action.
During Matariki we acknowledge what we have
and what we have to give.
Matariki celebrates the diversity of life.
It’s a celebration of culture, language, spirit and people.
Matariki is our
Aotearoa Pacific New Year.


I can share my ideas and
views with other students.
I can take part in different
group roles and class
activities.
I can contribute to
discussions when we work
together and listen to other
peoples’ views.
I respect and help other
students.
I take responsibility for my
actions.
I can communicate
appropriately in different
situations.
I think about how my actions
and comments affect others.
Matariki Theme Day is this Friday, and we
will be celebrating Matariki next week.
Students who have made kites will be able to fly them at playtimes this
Friday.
Next week, year 7-8 students will run a daily Matariki quiz for the
classrooms.
Each class will plant radish seeds in a
bucket and compete for the best radish bucket.
Just quietly, I think this cool looking bucket may
take out 1st prize!
SCHOOL UNIFORM
PLEASE PLEASE check that your children are in correct uniform before they
leave your house. Please remind them that black is not grey and that no jeans
are to be worn to school. We appreciate your support in this.
Congratulations to Campbell

awarded certificates for their
achievements in refereeing
touch. Campbell has completed
