Tournaments for novice (new) debaters

PRACTICE
The team practices from 2:20 to 5:00 PM Tuesday and Thursday in these rooms:
Armstrong



Armstrong High School: 224 and 223
Novice (new) Debaters in 224 from 2:20 PM to 4:00 PM
JV/Varsity (second year or later) in 223 from 2:20 PM to 5:00 PM
Cooper



Cooper High School: B242 and B241
Novice (new) Debaters in B242 from 2:20 PM to 4:00 PM
JV/Varsity (second year or later) in B241 from 2:20 PM to 5:00 PM
Additionally, a late night practice from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM will be offered on Thursdays at
Cooper High School. This practice is both Armstrong and Cooper students. Great option for
those in sports during the normal practice or simply want more practice time.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Do I need to attend every tournament?

No. Students do not need to attend every tournament. However, students are expected to
attend at least 6 tournaments.
What do we wear at tournaments?

Debate is a professional activity and students should dress the part.
Can parents watch debate tournaments?

Absolutely.
What is the time commitment?

We have practices twice a week. Students are expected to attend practice. We also have a
catch up practice at night this year.
How much debate cost?

School activity fee of $110.00 plus a one-time fee of $20 for the National Speech and Debate
Association membership.
Fundraising?

We have two items. The first, we host a tournament at Armstrong and Cooper on November
19th. Parents can help with concessions, donating items, etc. More information coming. The
second, we are going to try a second optional fundraiser.
