REFLECTIONS
and lasting joys that you have prepared for those who truly love you. Through Jesus
Christ our Lord we pray. Amen.
WORDS OF WELCOME
CONFESSION OF SIN
Our heavenly Father, we confess our failures to live fully as baptized Christians. We
fail to love and obey you as we should, and we fail to love our neighbors as ourselves.
We fail to proclaim the good news to the world, and we fail to live in love and unity
with our brothers and sisters. For the sake of your Son, empower us by your Spirit to
live as members of Christ’s Body and to bear faithful witness to the family Name;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
...In becoming a Christian you move from one type of humanity to the other, and you should never
think of yourself in the original mode again. ...In becoming a Christian you die and rise again with
the Messiah. ...When people submit to Christian baptism, they die with the Messiah and are raised
with him into a new life. ...We are no longer located 'in sin'; grace has met us there, not in order to
tell us that we were all right as we were, but in order to rescue us and to take us somewhere else.
...Once you are baptized, of course, you can try to shirk or shrug off your new responsibilities. You
can pretend you don't after all have a new status. ...But what you can't do is get unbaptized again.
Don't even think of trying to go back to Egypt. Better think carefully about who you now are, and
set off for the promised land.
— NT Wright
SILENT CONFESSION OF SIN
WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT
...God's grace not only forgives sins, but also delivers us from sinning. ...Those who ask
whether Christian people are free to sin betray their complete ignorance of what their
baptism meant. ...Our union with Jesus Christ has severed us from the old life and committed
us to the new. Our baptism stands between the two like a door between two rooms, closing
on the one and opening into the other. We have died, and we have risen. How can we
possibly live again in what we have died to?
— John Stott
 Our help is in the name of the Lord, | The Maker of heaven and earth.
O Lord, open our lips, | And our mouth will show forth your praise!
I have been baptized!
— Martin Luther

PRAYER OF ENTRANCE 
Loving Father, you have baptized all Christians into the death and resurrection of your
Son: Give us grace to follow all the saints in living out our baptisms, as reborn
children who are dead to sin and alive to God, that we may come to those beautiful
Do you now resolve and promise, in humble reliance upon the grace of the Holy Spirit,
that you will endeavor to live as becomes the followers of Christ?
I do.
Do you promise to support the church in its worship and work to the best of your ability?
I do.
Do you submit yourselves to the government and discipline of the church, and promise
to study its purity and peace?
I do.
INTRODUCTION TO BAPTISM
We were buried with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised
from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.
Therefore, consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.
AND CAN IT BE THAT I SHOULD GAIN
Do you believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as the Son of God, and Savior of sinners, and
do you receive and rest upon Him alone for salvation as He is offered in the Gospel?
I do.
BAPTISMAL VOWS FOR COVENANT PARENTS
2. He left his Father's throne above (so free, so infinite his grace!),
Emptied himself (so great His love!), and bled for Adam’s helpless race!
'Tis mercy all, immense and free; for, O my God, it found out me.
Refrain
Do you acknowledge your children’s need of the cleansing blood of Jesus Christ, and
the renewing grace of the Holy Spirit? | We do.
Do you claim God’s covenant promises on their behalf, and do you look in faith to the
Lord Jesus Christ for their salvation, as you do for your own? | We do.
3. Long my imprisoned spirit lay fast bound in sin and nature's night;
Thine eye diffused a quick’ning ray; I woke the dungeon flamed with light;
My chains fell off, my heart was free; I rose, went forth, and followed thee.
Refrain
4. No condemnation now I dread; Jesus, and all in Him, is mine!
Alive in Him, my living Head, and clothed in righteousness divine,
Bold I approach th'eternal throne, and claim the crown, through Christ my own. Refrain
IN CHRIST ALONE
The Apostle Paul, in reply to the Philippian jailer who asked “What must I do to be
saved?”, said: “Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved—you and your
household.” Then he and Silas spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all the others in
his house. At that hour of the night the jailer took them and washed their wounds; then
immediately he and all his family were baptized. The jailer brought them into his house
and set a meal before them; he was filled with joy because he had come to believe in
God—he and his whole family. (Acts 16.29-34)
9 AM – The Hamilton family now brings their children, Nate, Kiya, and Kalu, to receive
the sacrament of baptism.
11 AM – Kimberly Hamilton comes to receive the sacrament of baptism upon profession
of faith in Christ.
What is baptism?
The sacrament of baptism is a washing with water in the name of the Father, the
Son, and the Holy Spirit, which is a sign and seal that we are joined to Christ, that
we receive the benefits of the covenant of grace, and that we are engaged to be
the Lord’s. (Westminster Shorter Catechism 94)

1. In Christ alone, my hope is found; | He is my light, my strength, my song.
This Cornerstone, this solid ground; | Firm through the fiercest drought and storm.
What heights of love, what depths of peace, | When fears are stilled, when strivings cease:
My Comforter, my All in All, | Here in the love of Christ I stand.
2. In Christ alone, who took on flesh; | Fullness of God in helpless babe.
This gift of love and righteousness; | Scorned by the ones he came to save.
'Til on that cross as Jesus died, | The wrath of God was satisfied,
For every sin on him was laid; | Here in the death of Christ I live
3. There in the ground his body lay; | Light of the world by darkness slain.
Then bursting forth in glorious Day, | Up from the grave he rose again.
And as he stands in victory, | Sin's curse has lost its grip on me.
For I am his and he is mine, | Bought with the precious blood of Christ.
4. No guilt in life, no fear in death; | This is the power of Christ in me.
From life's first cry to final breath, | Jesus commands my destiny.
No power of hell, no scheme of man, | Can ever pluck me from His hand.
Til he returns or calls me home; | Here in the power of Christ I'll stand.
Do you now unreservedly dedicate your children to God, and promise, in humble reliance
upon divine grace, that you will endeavor to set before them a godly example, that you will
pray with and for them, that you will teach them the doctrines of our holy religion, and that
you will strive, by all the means of God’s appointment, to bring them up in the nurture and
admonition of the Lord? | We do, by God’s grace.
QUESTION TO THE ASSEMBLY OF GOD’S PEOPLE
9 AM – Do you as a congregation undertake the responsibility of Mike & Beth in the
Christian nurture of Nate, Kiya, and Kalu? | We do, by God’s grace.
11 AM – Will you, the members of Redeemer, who have witnessed these vows, do all in
your power to support Kimberly in her life with Christ? | We will, by God’s grace.
THE BAPTISMAL COVENANT
The Apostles’ Creed
Let us renew our own baptismal covenant:
Do you believe in God the Father?
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, the Maker of heaven and earth.
Do you believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God?
I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord: Who was conceived by the Holy
Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead,
Do you acknowledge yourselves to be sinners in the sight of God, justly deserving His
displeasure, and without hope save in His sovereign mercy?
I do.
and buried. He descended into hell. The third day He arose again from the dead. He
ascended into heaven and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty, from
whence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
Do you believe in God the Holy Spirit?
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the
forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.
Will you continue in the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in the
prayers? | I will, with God’s help.

HYMN OF RESPONSE
JESUS, I COME
1 What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? 2 By no means! How
can we who died to sin still live in it? 3 Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into
Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into
death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might
walk in newness of life.
5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a
resurrection like his. 6 We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin
might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. 7 For one who has died
has been set fre from sin. 8 Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him.
9 We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has
dominion over him. 10 For the death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to
God. 11 So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.
12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions. 13 Do not present
your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those
who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for
righteousness. 14 For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under
grace.
The Word of the Lord. | Thanks be to God!
Children Pre-K through 3rd Grade may be dismissed to Children’s Church.
2. Yet she on earth hath union with God the Three in One,
And mystic sweet communion with those whose rest is won,
O happy ones and holy! Lord, give us grace that we
Like them, the meek and lowly, on high may dwell with Thee.
–4–
Please come forward, by row, to receive the bread and the cup. If you are not taking Communion, you
may come forward for prayer, or remain seated. Please note that the center cup and inner circle contain
grape juice, for those who desire it.
2. Out of my shameful failure and loss, | Jesus, I come, Jesus, I come;
Into the glorious gain of thy cross, | Jesus, I come to thee.
Out of earth’s sorrows into thy balm, | Out of life’s storms and into thy calm,
Out of distress into jubilant psalm, | Jesus, I come to thee.
We break bread in the name of Father, Son and Holy Spirit! And we declare the great
mystery of faith: | Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again.
Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us; | Therefore let us keep the feast.
These are the gifts of God for the people of God. | Thanks be to God!
3. Out of unrest and arrogant pride, | Jesus, I come, Jesus, I come;
Into thy blessed will to abide, | Jesus, I come to thee.
Out of myself to dwell in thy love, | Out of despair into raptures above,
Upward forever on wings like a dove, | Jesus, I come to thee.

THE PEACE OF CHRIST 
In the ancient church, members of the congregation greeted one another with a sign of
friendship. In the same way, let us welcome one another in the Lord:
4. On such love, my soul, still ponder,
| Love so great, so rich, so free;
Say, while lost in holy wonder, |
Why, O Lord, such love to me?
Hallelujah!
Grace shall reign, | Hallelujah!
Grace shall reign,
Hallelujah!
Grace shall reign eternally.
May the peace of Christ be always with you! | And also with you!
Let us offer one another a sign of peace.

THE EPISTLE LESSON 
THE CHURCH’S ONE FOUNDATION
Sleeper/Thompson
Those who have professed faith in Christ for the forgiveness of sins within a church body and who have
been baptized are invited to partake of the Lord’s Supper here at Redeemer. We receive the Lord’s Supper
worthily only if we bear in mind that Christ gave his body for the remission of our sins; it is his merit only that
admits us to this table. It is dangerous to eat the body and blood of the Lord otherwise. For this reason, we
ask those who do not meet the above conditions to refrain from eating. We do encourage you to come
forward for prayer from one of our ministers if you desire it, or to remain seated and to pray and reflect on
what you have heard and seen in the service. The Christian who doubts his standing before God should
labor to have his doubts resolved. This brother or sister in Christ is especially encouraged to eat this feast
that he or she may be further strengthened in the faith.
