DETROIT – August 23, 2016 – UAW-GM is committed to service and supports numerous causes and organizations, with
particular focus placed on veterans, social justice, education and health. For the past 10 years, UAW-GM Center for Human
Resources has generously supported the work of the March of Dimes, to improve the health of babies by helping to prevent
birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality, through its annual car raffle.
This year, the 2016 March of Dimes Raffle drawing will be held in conjunction with the 2016 UAW-GM Spirit of Detroit
HydroFest on Sunday, August 28th. The drawing will be held during the closing ceremonies and APBA Gold Cup
presentation. New this year, the raffle winner will have the choice among four different 2016 GM vehicles, donated by
UAW-GM: Buick LaCrosse Sedan, Chevrolet Silverado 1500 4WD Double Cab, GMC Acadia AWD Sedan SLT or a Cadillac ATS
AWD Sedan.
To date, UAW-GM has raised more than $1.5 million through various fundraising efforts held at our UAW represented GM
facilities. The numerous fundraisers are in addition to the raffles for the March of Dimes to help further its mission to
reduce premature births and increase the health of mothers. Tickets for the 2016 March of Dimes Raffle are $20 each, or
four for $60, and can be purchased all weekend long at the UAW-GM Spirit of Detroit HydroFest until time of the drawing
on Sunday, August 28, 2016. You need not be present to win.
“I can’t think of a more worthwhile goal than ensuring babies are born healthy and supporting parents of infants with
special needs,” said UAW Vice President Cindy Estrada, who directs the UAW’s General Motors Department. “That’s what
the March of Dimes has been doing for nearly 80 years, and the UAW is proud of our longstanding commitment to
supporting that work.”
“Whether it’s funding research to improve the health of babies or educate expectant mothers, UAW members and GM
employees do their part to give babies a fighting chance to survive,” said Cathy Clegg, GM North America Manufacturing
and Labor Relations Vice President.
The 2016 UAW-GM Spirit of Detroit HydroFest festivities kicks off with the “Classic Shore Dinner” Race Preview Party on
