Faculty of Humanities University of Oslo Contract between University of Oslo, the Contractor and Student On internship placement, International project semester § 1 Work placement goals for the intern Firstly, the internship placement serves as a learning arena for the student. Secondly, the project report(s) and the student’s work should be useful for the contractor. § 2 Costs The contractor pays no salary or scholarship to the student. However, the contractor provides office space with access to a computer (this does not necessarily mean a personal office). Provided that the student qualifies for support, the student receives financial means for travel and accommodation from the Norwegian Agency for Student Funding, Lånekassen. § 3 Work The student is expected to be working between 37,5-40 hours per week throughout the placement period. o The student is expected to spend about 12-18 hours per week working on the reports (§4) and the rest of the week working for the contractor. Working hours should generally be within the contractor’s ordinary office hours. The contractor is responsible for the work content. The tasks should be varied, challenging and provide insight into the nature of a real life work environment . The duration of the project period is between 4-6 months (within the Norwegian terms of the study year. A Norwegian spring term lasts from mid-January through June and the autumn term from mid-August through December). § 4 Project report(s) The topic of the report(s) should be of interest to the contractor and are planned in collaboration between the contractor, the student and the supervisor at the University of Oslo. It is highly recommended that this phase be completed prior to arrival, or at the latest 1 month after arrival if extraordinary circumstances require such a delay. The student is responsible for initiating his or her work with the project report(s). The project report(s) should be about 20 A4 pages combined. In addition the student writes executive summaries that should not exceed 3 pages combined. The student writes 1-3 reports depending on the needs of the contractor. The student is required to have an academic supervisor at the University of Oslo. Reports are to be handed in at the University of Oslo no later than the 1st of June (spring term) or the 1st of December (autumn term). The University of Oslo and the contractor each receives one copy of the report(s). § 5 The student’s obligations The student is responsible for obtaining necessary visas, purchasing flight ticket(s), providing accommodation, purchasing necessary student/travel insurance(s) etc. The student is responsible for organise personal health coverage, including necessary vaccinations. The student is expected to observe travel advices given by the Ministry of foreign affairs. § 6 The obligations of the contractor Section for studies P.O. The student can attach this letter to the visa applications. The contractor issues to the student a written statement at the end of the placement. As a minimum the statement should include the length of stay and the work content during the work placement. The contractor has no obligation to provide accommodation for the student, but providing assistance in the process is highly desirable. § 7 Intellectual property rights and accessibility to the report The reports are regulated by the Norwegian Intellectual Property Act. The student retains the copyrights of the written reports. Therefore, changes to the report can only be made with the student’s consent. The regulations for the international project term require the report(s) to be publicly available after graduation. § 8 Legal issues: Disputes, non-fulfillment or breach of contract / cancellation In the case of disputes on the understanding of this contract or any other issues pertaining to the work placement, the parties – represented by the student, program manager and contractor’s management - are obliged to seek and find a viable solution to the dispute. In the case of non-fulfillment or breach of contract by the student, e.g. in the case of long-term sickness or hospitalisation, the student has no liability to the contractor to complete the report and no obligation to catch up any lost hours of work. The University of Oslo is not in any case liable to the contractor in the case of the student’s nonfulfillment of work hours or report. Any other liability issues should be covered by the student’s insurance(s). The contractor may cancel the contract in the case of a ’force majeure’ – other cases should be solved under the provisions of paragraph 8. § 9 The parties’ contact details – copies of the contract The contact details of the parties involved, i.e. Administrative contact at the University of Oslo and those of the contractor (position, name, postal address, telephone number, e-mail address) are stated in Appendix 1 of this contract. The contract is signed in 3 – three – originals of which the parties retain one copy each.
