Finding Errors on Grading Plans (aka Redlining)
As in the real world, many drawings have errors that need to be caught and corrected before
a set of CDs can be sent out to bid. In “LARE Land” it is common practice to provide a
drawing with potential errors. One is then asked to identify the errors, if any, and describe
them by selecting from a provided list. In a multiple choice set of possibilities, one of the
choices is almost always “The drawing or detail is correct.” This has proven to be a very
good test of knowledge, so you are very likely to see this approach on the exam.
Given:
•
•
•
•
•
A parking lot segment - graded as indicated
A set of existing and a set of proposed contours along with several SEs
A curb, where indicated, is .5 units in height
A Catch Basin (CB) with a RE of 57.45
Scale and dimensions are not to be considered
Problem:
•
•
Identify and circle at least nine (9) errors on the site plan
Note: In the real LARE you would be asked to place an X on the spot where the error
has occurred. Or, you may be given a list of possible errors and be asked to locate
them on the plan.
