Rules and Regulations
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE:
Premier Showmanship will be for Senior Showman Only. Senior Showmanship winners
from the following species will be allowed to enter the Premier Showmanship competition:

Beef, Sheep, Swine, Meat Goats, Dairy Goats, Dairy Cattle, Horse
*If the Showmanship winner in a specific species declines to participate, the Reserve
Champion showmanship winner will be next in line for the Premier Showmanship
competition
*If for some reason there is no senior showman in a specific species, the next age group (68 grade) Showmanship winner will have the option to participate in the contest.
*Youth in grades 3-5 who win their division in showmanship will be invited to stand with
one of the premier showmanship judges as an assistant if they would like.
*Please note that ANY youth has the option of turning down the chance to enter the
Premier Showmanship competition.
*If an individual wins showmanship in more than 1 species, they MUST decide before the
posted deadline what species they will enter the Premier Showmanship Competition with.
-In regards to the species not chosen; The Reserve Champion Showmanship winner
will be allowed the opportunity to enter the Premier Showmanship Competition.
Important Note
An individual may win the Premier Showmanship Competition TWICE (2) with the same
species. You may enter the Premier Showmanship competition many times with the same
species, until you win (overall) twice. Following the second win (Overall Premier
Showmanship) you may not enter the premier show again with that species. You may,
however, enter the Premier Showmanship Competition with another species.

Ring Assistants:
The Showmanship winners in the intermediate division (6-8) and junior division (3-5) will
be invited to act as ring assistants. The ring assistant’s job is to hold animal during
rotations and assist the judge as needed.
Set-up, ring procedures and take down committee:
This committee will consist of the Livestock Committee members, the 4-H Coordinator and
the Livestock Superintendents of the fair. This group is in charge of setting up the arena,
informing each species on where to go, keeping the clock for the rotation times, assisting
in calculating the score cards, and taking down the show arena following the show.
MC: 4-H Coordinator. This person is in charge of the following:

1. Introduction of Participants
2.
Introduction of Judges
3. Introduction of Ring assistants
4. Explaining the Contest Procedures
5. Announce times and keep rotation going.
6. Allow judges to speak to crowd and kids about what questions they
asked and any other comments, following the final rotation, while scores
are being totaled.
7. Announce the SPONSORS
PREMIER SHOWMANSHIP CONTEST PROCEDURES:
1.
Contestants start showing own animal ( 3 MINUTES)

Rotate clockwise,

EACH CONTESTANT WILL GET 3 MINUTES AT EACH SPECIES

Rotation is complete when each contestant has shown all species
Judges turn in score cards

JUDGES PROCEDURES:
1. Score each individual 1-10, may use ½ point if desired.
a. 5 points are designated for presentation of the animal
b. 5 points are designated for answering of questions
2. Each individual gets a 10 at their own species.
3. Each judge is to have 5 general species questions ready to ask each person.
a. Start with an easy general question and continue to more advanced
questions


Safety pins to attach numbers to contestant’s shirts.

