Competitor Briefing: 8:00 a.m. followed by Coach & Volunteer Briefings
Teams:
- Preference will be given to NYUC regional teams. Out-of-Region teams and competitors will be
accepted on a space available basis and at the discretion of the Rally Organizers.
- Teams will be composed of three or four riders, certified D2 jumping and up and one non-riding stable
manager (D2 HM and up). Participants with National Intent to qualify for USPC Championships must be
a minimum age of 12 years as of January 1, 2017, and must be certified D-3 or above. Competitors
holding a certification of D-2 may compete in non-qualifying divisions only.
- Teams may include mixed participants in qualifying or non-qualifying divisions or any combination of
horses/ponies at any division level.
- Individual entries and partial teams will be combined by rally organizers to form scramble teams. One
Team Entry form must be supplied for each team or partial team. A horse manager, coach and
chaperone MUST be sent in with each team or partial team. NOTE: Because single riders and partial
teams will be combined to form complete teams when possible, some stable managers and
chaperones may not be needed. In that case, those fees will be returned.
- Non-USPC riders will be allowed to ride (with DC approval and an additional $10 fee per rider) either
on teams under full HM rules or as “open” riders ($30 per round). Medical armbands/medical bracelets
and a rally release for non-members are required.

Refunds after the closing date at 50% of entry with medical excuse for horse or competitor. Another
entrant from the same club with the same qualifications may substitute with permission of the rally
organizer. Withdrawals before the closing date will be refunded minus a $25.00 processing fee.
A $10.00 fee will added, per item, to any incomplete or late entries received.
Special Needs: Please make sure all special needs are noted on the entry forms. Also, please note if
written tests need to be read.
Description of Competition for Qualifying Divisions Except Introductory:
- All Qualifying Competitors will ride 3 courses.
- Round 1 (grass ring) is a normal knockdown round and will include an equitation score.
- Round 2 (sand ring) is a Take Your Own Line course.
- Round 3 (grass ring) is a Knockdown Round followed by a shortened Jump-Off course. Riders
who jump a clear round will remain in the ring and begin the jump off round upon the judges
signal.
Description of Competition for Qualifying Introductory Division:
- The Qualifying Introductory Division is intended to be a way for less experienced riders and horses to
start the process to move up the ladder of success to the higher level divisions.
- The maximum jump height and spread is 2’6”. Courses will be simpler with a maximum of 8 to 10
jumps. No combinations will be allowed and there will not be a TYOL round nor a Jump-Off.
- Competitors will jump 3 courses that are all normal knockdown courses. Equitation will be scored in
the first course.
- Jumping speed for the Introductory Division will be 300 MPM and will be scored for all rounds.
** Riders who do not have national intent may ride in Qualifying Divisions.

Anyone interested in competing at Q4 (Horse IV) level should contact organizer as this division could be added.
Description of Competition for Non-Qualifying Divisions:
- These divisions are recommended for competitors new to the Show Jumping rally. It is set up to be an
introduction to participating in a regional rally and riding courses.
- Three courses will be ridden. All rides will be normal knockdown competitions.
- Round 1 is designated to include the equitation phase. This round will receive 2 scores, a
normal knockdown score and an Equitation score.
- Competitors should have prior experience with courses equivalent to these heights.
- Division N1: Max 18” (Must be D2 Jump Certification or above)
- Division N2: Max 2’3” (Must be D3 Jump Certification or above)

Attire:
- As per 2017 Horse Management Handbook and 2017 Show Jumping Rulebook and Newsletter.
 A USPC pin, medical armband or medical bracelet and pinney number must be worn at all
times during the rally.
 Approved helmets are required.
Unauthorized Assistance:
- Competitors are expected to be self-reliant. Competitors are judged on their abilities as an in individual
or as a member of a team. This promotes teamwork, fosters individual problem solving skills and
further develops self-reliance. Therefore unauthorized assistance is not permitted. Assistance, if
needed, is available only from other Competitors, HMJs, and Rally Officials, unless otherwise stated in
the Show Jumping Rulebook.
- Handing anything, which has been dropped during his/her round to a mounted Competitor, constitutes
unauthorized assistance and the competitor will be eliminated. Handing protective headgear and/or
spectacles to a rider is not considered unauthorized assistance.
- If bodily harm to mount and/or rider is imminent, assistance from anyone without concern for
penalties is expected.
Scoring:
- As per USPC Handbook and Rules for Show Jumping Competition - 2017 with the 2017 Show Jumping
Newsletter and appendices.
Awards:
- Ribbons will be awarded through 8th place in overall score and horse management categories.
- Ribbons will also be awarded for 1st – 8th in Equitation.
Stabling and Tack rooms:
- Stalls are not available during the rally. Competitors must use their trailers and the trailering area for
horses and tack rooms. NO ADULT tack room setup help is allowed.
Weather Emergency Plan:
- All people at the rally should be aware of the Region’s Weather Emergency Plan. It is available for
viewing at the regional web page under forms, will be posted in the Secretary Booth and will be
included in packets. Weather conditions can change quickly, especially at Kent, and everyone should be
prepared.
Inspections:
- Formal Inspections and Jogouts will be scheduled for each rider approximately 1 to 1.5 hours before
his/her first round. Prior to each entry into the schooling area, both horse and rider shall be presented
for a safety check.
Competition Arenas:
- All divisions will compete in the enclosed sand ring and the enclosed grass jumper field.
Coaches:
- Each individual competitor and/or each team must be accompanied by a coach. Coaches must be
declared on the entry form.
- Signed "Guidelines for Coaching at USPC Show Jumping Competitions" must accompany all entries.
Volunteers:
- Each team is required to appoint two people to volunteer as assistants for various duties throughout
the day. Names must be indicated on form.

Food:
- Food will not be available on the hill. Please bring your own food and beverages. Water will be
available for competitors.
Championships Nationals:
- Any competitor wishing to try out for the USPC Show Jumping Championships in Lexington, KY, July 17
- 21, 2017 must complete a NYUC Nationals Championship Intent Form.
- Qualifiers must ride the same level at Nationals as they qualified with. The same horse/rider combo
must have competed over 3 courses with no eliminations and less than 12 jumping faults at the
Regional Qualifying rally to be eligible for Nationals.
- National competitors must follow age and rating requirements as stated in the Gold Book (in general,
at least D3 jump to ride, D3HM to SM).
- The NYUC Stable Managers will be chosen from the candidates with intent; stable manager of the
teams scoring highest in horse management or from a pool of alternate riders by the RS. Further
information is available in the Show Jumping Newsletter, Rulebook & Gold Book.
- Competitors with National Intent please provide shirt size on the Team Entry Form.
- Due to the fact that the closing date for Championships entries is July 1, 2017 it is required that all
possible Nationals paperwork is submitted shortly after the rally in order to be submitted for
qualifying. See Gold Book on the National website for information regarding Championships. Several
forms will be electronically submitted for 2017 Championships.

Championship riders are encouraged to attend UL Prep Camp at Kent, following the Dressage rally.
Payment and paperwork for Nationals and additional information will be collected immediately
following the SJ and Dressage rallies.
Early Arrival and Layover of Individuals and Horses:
- Any competitor who wishes to arrive the night before the competition may arrange to do so. Overnight
stabling is available but limited. Competitors are responsible for supplying their own shavings and feed
and for completely cleaning stall before the beginning of rally.
- Stabling for the extra night is $25 for the stall, payable to NYUC.
- Camping is permitted in the Kent Stables parking field at no charge.
- For any of these reservations, complete the Early Arrival/ Layover form with appropriate checks and
mail to Vicki Doyle.

- From the South: Rt. 7 north to traffic light at monument in Kent (about 25 miles north of Danbury).
West (left) onto Rt. 341, over the bridge, take immediate right onto Skiff Mountain Rd. Follow for 5
miles to top of mountain and Kent Stables will be on the right.
- From the North: Rt. 7 south to traffic light in Kent at monument, take a right onto Rt. 341, follow as
above.
- From East: Rt. 8 north from Waterbury to exit 42, left off ramp onto Rt. 118 into Litchfield, take Rt. 202
west through Bantam and past Mt. Tom Pond, right onto Rt. 341, follow into Kent at traffic light,

From the West: Rt. 684 to Rt. 22 north, to Rt. 55 (NY), left onto Rt. 7 north to traffic light at monument
