Prayer in the Chapel-At-Large
The Chapel at Large
provides help to Pray the
Model Prayer from Jesus
of Matthew 6:9-13
The Model Prayer Introduction by
Jesus of Matthew 6:5-9a
Introduction begins with “And when you
pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites”
Introduction ends with “In this
manner,therefore, pray”
SunGrist_Bible in this Chapel-At-Large
would seek to enhance your worship and
prayer experience, especially among those
of you interested in the Bible and Christ yet
disgusted with churches.
The Model Prayer Context of
Matthew 6:5-9a
Jesus first gives the background for how not
to pray, the way many religious leaders
pray.
They pray to be seen and heard by men in
the most prominent places: this is prayer for
show to men, not for God.
When you pray do it at home in your own
private room and shut the door.
Pray to your Father, and only through
Christ, in the secret place of heaven where...
The Model Prayer Context of
Matthew 6:5-9a
God is seated on the Great White Throne
with the clouds as His footstool and the
Lord Jesus Christ at His right hand making
intercession for our sins and preparing to
come get us again in great power and glory!
Your Father, seeing you in the secret place
and from His unseen, secret place of
heaven, will reward you with answered
prayer right out in the open to everybody!
The Model Prayer Context of
Matthew 6:5-9a
Do not use vain repetition in your prayers,
like the heathen; and like in Jesus’ day you
will have to go counter to current religious
practices like in praise and praise music, the
most common form of prayer in public,
where approximately 3-5 words without
much meaning are repeated over and over
again.
The Model Prayer Context of
Matthew 6:5-9a
You do not, according to Jesus, have to use
a lot of words; but in time, and that is a goal
of SunGrist_Bible to help you, you should
be able to take the concepts of Jesus in each
sentence of the Model prayer and
extemporaneously develop your own words.
(Do not be nervous as it may take time as
the model of Jesus, and the meaning behind
the sentences starts to make more sense.
The Model Prayer Context of
Matthew 6:5-9a
Jesus did not mean for you to continue long
in a repetition of the exact words of the
Model Prayer, as that over a period of years
would also result in vain repetition where
your heart was not in it and even your mind.
Prayer becomes a meaningless ritual!
The Model Prayer Context of
Matthew 6:5-9a
Since the God who has the hairs of your
head numbered, who knows when you sit
down to pray or get up from prayer and
what you do before and after, you do not
have to pray like everybody else since He
already knows how your personal needs
differ from everybody else!
So Jesus said, “Pray in the manner (not
same words after practice) in the manner of
the Model Prayer.
Sentences of the Model Prayer
{Sometimes called the Lord’s
Prayer”} By the way, consider this as
the message in the Chapel-at-Large.
“Our Father in heaven”: Proper Identification
of God as your Father, because He was first
the Father of the Lord Jesus Christ, and where
this God is located, in heaven.
“Hallowed be Your name.” Model praying
begins with proper respect for God the Father.
Sentences continued
“Your kingdom come.” This puts your prayer in a
proper perspective that God can hear and answer as
you recognize before Him a seeking first of His
kingdom {also the kingdom of Christ} and His
righteousness. This is for the kingdom to increase
on earth, established during the life of Christ, and
to come in dominion and power at the Second
Coming of Christ.
“Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”
More perspective for answered prayer as a
willingness is expressed to know, do, and spread
the influence of God and Christ on earth.
Sentences continued
“Give us this day our daily bread”. Notice it is
for daily needs only, not a false prayer for
prosperity. There is a “god” called Satan, the
prince of this world and of the power of this
world, who does answer prayers for prosperity
when one has agreed to bow down and worship
him in the name of a god and has agreed to
serve him.
“And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our
debtors.” Confession of sins to God only is
necessary for answered prayer, for forgiveness,
and for cleansing from all unrighteousness.
Sentences continued
“And do not lead us into temptation”. Dare we
have a habit and perspective of leading
ourselves into temptations, then pray for God
not to lead us into temptation.
“But deliver us from the evil one.” It is
consistent with the pattern, or model and
manner here, to pray: “Deliver us from the
spirit within us that lusteth to envy, from evil
and the evil one, also keeping us from
unnecessary tangents, temptations, diversions,
and the sin and weights which do so easily
beset us.
Sentences continued
“For Yours is the kingdom and the power and
the glory forever.” We see many kingdoms in
this world, the kingdom of the United States, the
Arab kingdom of Allah, etc; but the only
kingdom that is the “YOURS” of God our Father
and His Lord Jesus Christ is the kingdom of
Christ. It is growing since established by
Christ, and as the only eternal kingdom, and
when all other kingdoms are destroyed, will
dominant the new earth even as it now
dominates heaven.
“Amen”. I really mean it.
