On-Off Tool

Reciprocating Rod Lift Systems
On-Off Tool
Weatherford’s On-Off tool is typically used with oversized tubing pumps
to pull the rod string without pulling the tubing string. The tool can also
be used with insert pumps to allow the rod string to be pulled without
pulling the pump, as in the case of a stuck pump.
The On-Off tool is available in various styles, sizes, thread sizes,
and materials and is offered in both a right- and left-release direction.
Selection of the correct release direction is based on the application and
other equipment used.
The tool latches automatically by simply lowering the rod string. The tool
then rotates to the correct alignment position and uses the rod string’s
weight to latch. Turning the tool in the appropriate direction while slowly
picking up the rod string facilitates proper engagement.
The tool releases or unlatches by simply setting the pump at the bottom
of the stroke and turning the rod string in the release direction of the
tool. (Turn to the right to release the right-hand tool; turn to the left to
release the left-hand tool.)
Applications
• Tubing pumps of various sizes to enable pulling the rod string without
pulling the tubing string
• Insert pumps to enable pulling the rod string without pulling the pump
Feature, Advantage and Benefit
• Tool mechanics and design are field-proven to increase the fatigue life
of the tool, reducing failures and operational costs.
