& ecosystem health
Identify location of all high-volume storm drains and the
largest storm water contributions to the Truckee River.
Establish necessary testing procedures for assessing
quality of water coming out of storm drains and identify
the areas that are the main contributors of pollution to the
river.
Implement Best Management Practices to improve quality
of water flowing into the Truckee River from contributing
watershed areas.
Develop Truckee River Watershed Management Plan
through stakeholder coordination and consensus process.
Interface with emerging Washoe County Fire Adapted
Communities Network to integrate fuels management
(pre and post fire) in the Wildland Urban Interface of the
Truckee River watershed.
Establish permanent photo points on the river to monitor
debris, water levels and human impact.
Ensure adequate public restrooms along the Truckee
River. Initiate a pilot study of temporary restroom
facilities in priority areas along the river corridor.
Review existing development codes among jurisdictions,
and provide guidance and direction for low impact
development (LID) and river enhancement.

engaged river community
Work with first responder teams to identify existing and
desirable water access points.
Fund and install mileage markers along the Truckee River
trail.
Make public access a condition of approval for new
development fronting the Truckee River.
Work with local Community Wellness providers to
implement a “Healthy River, Healthy People” campaign
that will encourage the wellbeing of the Truckee River as
well as the residents that live, work and play along it.

connecting people & places

Confirm the endorsement, adoption and implementation
of the OTR Plan with the local jurisdictions and other
partners.
Create metrics for measuring success and achievements of
the plan.
Create a base line GIS map specific to the Truckee River
Conduct an Annual One Truckee River Initiative Forum.
