All funds raised will support a feeding programme in Kenya to allow children to go to school and have a meal each day. Father Gary Brassington, the Diocesan representative for the charity, has led an assembly this week in school to present the project to pupils. For a £1 donation pupils can wear brightly coloured clothing instead of school uniform. Each class will also be organising their own fun fund-raising activity if pupils wish to bring another 50p to £1. Free Festival and Garden Party Wotton House Horton Road Gloucester GL1 3PR Sports Day: The Junior sports day produced some really excellent athletic performances and examples of amazing determination and character. This year we reverted to a more traditional, track based event and this proved to be very popular with the pupils. The children participated in individual sprints, bean bag races, distance runs and relays - it was great to see everyone putting such effort in to their performances but not at the expense of enjoyment and good sportsmanship. Thank you for the excellent support throughout the afternoon and to those brave souls who (reluctantly!) participated in the mums’ and dads’ races. Building Fund: Please send in your contributions as soon as possible, we are hoping to purchase Interactive screens for the junior classrooms – thank you After-School Clubs: Next week is the final session for all clubs (apart from Friday Multi-Sports which finishes on 14th July). First Holy Communion 2017 Congratulations to the children in Year 3 who made their First Holy Communion at Our Lady’s last Sunday. Well done to Allegra, Heidi, Kacper, Sofia, Dylan, Olivia, Maksiu, Alfie, Jacob and Jakub. This Sunday at 10:30 mass (Our Lady’s) children will receive their certificates and there will be a celebration party on the school field. The children nominated for excellent manners and courtesy this week (as nominated by the teachers ) are: EYFS – Evie Smith Year 1 – Sylvie Kibble Year 2 – Aimee Palmer Year 3 – Caleb Lane Year 4 – Mia Hadzihajdic Year 5 – Matthew King Year 3 had a wonderful, albeit a very hot day, at Robinswood Nature Park. Within our science topic we had the great opportunity to do some pond dipping. The children all scooped nets and were beyond excited about some of their finds! Seth was a king pond dipper and found creatures every time from tadpoles to pond snails, from pond beetles to fish. We also compared the pond habitat to a woodland habitat and scurried around, lifting logs to find creatures low and high... a super spider found and caught high up on a branch by Heidi and Martim. After a much needed lunch, and a blow out in the park, we started our journey up the hill. We talked about various leaves, habitats, insects and the excitement of different animal mess! Taking in lots of drinks, wearing hats and wearing copious amounts of suncream we walked higher and higher. Those that struggled at the beginning soon were desperate to be the first to the top. (Parents...don't ever let them moan on a big walk again, they certainly can do it!) At the top were breathtaking views of Gloucestershire on such a clear day. The children should be very proud of themselves and their great sense of achievement. It was a wonderful trip- a big thank you to the mums of Martim, Alfie and Pearl who braved the heat with us! Let's look forward to more trips next year! Mrs Crowley.
