Position Overview:
The Merchandise Planner will assist in creating the company’s annual budget, update
financial forecasts, analyze variances in operating plan, and execute special projects as
needed. They will provide financial consulting and strategic support to senior
management including helping prepare board presentations, capital expenditure analysis,
analyze cost and pricing decisions, and identifying new business opportunities. This
function acts as the analytical engine of the company to provide insights and support
“optimal” business decision making.
Primary Job Duties:








Help develop annual budgets and maintain monthly financial forecasts
Monitor performance indicators, highlighting trends and analyzing causes of
unexpected variance
Analyze current and past trends for all areas of revenue, cost of sales, expenses
and capital expenditures and offer opinions and creative solutions to help
maximize business results
Improve company performance by evaluating ROI in pricing, supply chain, and
inventory management
Develop and provide appropriate business analysis to influence category
management strategies and recommend future purchases
Update weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports
Participate in the development/maintenance of cost/pricing programs by working
with multiple teams on data collection, statistical analysis, and refining of our
analytical tools
Support functional departments (i.e. category management, inventory, supply
chain and accounts payable) with ad hoc analysis and reporting as needed

Preferred Qualifications:









Bachelor's degree in Business, Math, Finance, Economics or related field
required
Minimum of five (5) years preferably in a wholesale/retail environment working in
replenishment, planning, category management and/or supply chain
Minimum two (2) years of experience in merchandise or financial planning
Proficient in MS Office applications Excel, Access, Word & PowerPoint
Advanced technical skills with using MS Excel (Pivot Tables, VLookups, Macros),
Access, SQL and relational databases a plus
Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem solving skills with a high attention
to detail
Proven ability to generate results and proactively drive a business
Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and strategies accordingly
Possess the inter-personal, written and verbal communication skills needed to
interact with people at all levels of the organization
